Mandalorian Reference Thread

New clean shot of Ahsoka's sabers. They look very close to the GE sabers, though there are differences, and I think these are thinner. Looks like they added hex screws as blade holders near the emitter.

Slightly sloppy bases on those photoshopped blades in the previous post - something odd about it particularly in the lettering but I understand it came from a poster site?

This character poster shows extended collar pieces on the saber hilts at the base of the blade that aren't visible in other art or even the episode (blades on or off) - maybe additional support for the plastic practical blades that is meant to be digitally erased? They could be an error in this poster's photoshop work too, for that matter.

Female Mandalorians obviously have their own distinct look, but as you can see with Bo-Katan and Koska Reeves, there are slight variations in that style as well.
The Nite Owls were an all-female squad formed by Bo-Katan. She joined forces with Pre Viszla and his Death Watch. They had their own insignia and their own helmet base design. By itself, it's not a "women's helmet" -- just the helmet of a subgroup who happened to be all-female. Female Mandalorians in the old EU wore a wide range of helmet designs, including the standard "Boba" look, and there's nothing in the new canon to disprove that. Nor prove it, really, but there is support for gender-neutrality in helmet designs from Maul's Supercommandos. Some still sported their old Death Watch helmets, in new colors, but many -- men and women alike -- had the new "squinty-visor" Supercommando helmet, which looks a lot like it took its inspiration from the Nite Owls' helmets.

Digging the flat handle Katana look, I didn't notice that in the show.

I'm well aware of the history of Bo-Katan and her Nite Owls. So far in the current canon, nearly every female Mandalorian has worn a helmet with the 'owl' visor shape. The helmet's shape can vary and be adorned in different ways, but that visor shape is what distinguishes the men from the women. It's not just a Death Watch thing, other clans such as Clan Wren and the many others represented when Bo-Katan is gifted the darksaber by Sabine in Rebels used that general helmet design for the females as well.

Also, see the 360 turnaround for Bo-Katan's CW helmet titled "Maquette of Female Mandalorian Helmet" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sanded and refinished the grips from fieldmarshal. Here is a fast and dirty before and after.

I went with minwax espresso. They’re darker in person and match more closely what I expect wooden gun grips to look like.

Mando's clan's foundry leader also had this shape in Season 1.

I wasn't saying that to talk down to you. I know you know the history of all that. You also know how they've cut animation-cost corners. A single male Death Watch model is cheaper than a male and female. A single female Nite Owl model is cheaper than a male and female. Same way they reused Hat-pulled-down Imperial-officer Guy and Smoked-visor Rebel-pilot Guy all over the place in Rebels. They needed male Death Watch dudes and the needed female Nite Owls, and just didn't make the other models. I do not take that to mean the Death Watch were only men and the Nite Owls were only women (ancillary material says so, but since it's not an actual story, it can be overwritten). Lack of evidence is not evidence of lack. And, when you add in other factors, like those "Mauldelorians", male and female, with their identical Nite Owl-derived helmet design... Since Bo was the leader (maybe founder) of the Nite Owls, I wouldn't be at all surprised to find her former associates, like Ursa Wren, showing up to pledge their support at the end of that storyline in Rebels.

So until someone says, in canon, that that's the base design for lady Mandos, I'm sticking with, "It's designed to be evocative of the owl the unit is named for, and, since that squad was all or mostly female, many women wear it, and hardly any (if at all) men".

Kind of also looks like a cheese slicer on a gun handle. That's what it reminds me of. What prop barrel did they use for his old man gut? Boba needs that carnivore diet.

Seems Boba Fett and Gor Koresh share a gun.

So Boba’s new blaster got brought up and from screenshots it reminds me of a hot knife/rope cutter in gun form. Something about the way the two “barrels” are joined in the front.
This shot shows it pretty well

Seems Boba Fett and Gor Koresh share a gun.

the side shot looks like it's the same one that harrisonp snagged for the other thread it came up.

I dig it. I liked Koresh's gun when I saw it, and I thought it looked good when fett was gunslinging. so I'm content with the new look :p

Not sure if this is common knowledge but in case someone missed this, concept designer Brian Matyas posted on IG about the basis for the mandalorian blaster yesterday. It's a Bergmann 1896.

I think you misinterpreted his message a little. He came across the 1896 in a book, which brought him to the 1894. The 1894 No. 1 is the inspiration for the pistol in the show. You can see it’s almost a 1:1 translation. Just a few modifications and added greeblies.

Here is a great video if you’re interested.
