Mandalorian Reference Thread

Each time I see the beskar ingot, I keep thinking that design would make a nice wallet. Might try tooling one up at some point in the future.

If anyone needs a good start on a blaster, I worked up a model in fusion over the last few weeks here: Pulse Blaster Model
It was driving me crazy for the longest time wondering if that rifle had an open barrel or if it just ended in the fork. Looks like it's just a fork.

Trying to find it myself... the old fashioned way. It seems to be a 1.5" ish knob, but it has a black line across the hemisphere, so maybe a custom part.

Hello everyone. I've been looking to making the Mando's (Pistol) blaster, and I was wondering if you guys could post some reference of it, besides the one already posted on this thread. Thank you guys.

If anyone knows a decent 3D file of the blaster, please feel free to pull it up as well. Thanks again.

I dropped some info on the helmet painting process in the Anovos thread, but figured I’d summarize and share that info here as well where it is more relevant. I hesitate to post this because I do intend to offer finishing services on this helmet, but in the spirit of The RPF, I will give away what I can.

A common issue I am seeing with fan helmets is they are much too bright. They are taking the chrome paint to full opacity and reaching an aluminum shine when you really only want to take it to half opacity. The vent and sections of the ears are painted to full opacity, and as such are a much brighter finish. It’s cleared with a 2K clear, weathered with oil paints and then another pass of weathering with a different paint used on top of that. That is what gives the helmet its very layered look. There is also some tone shifting going on which is a result of the weathering process. This one is pretty obvious but the black is on top of the clear coat, not under it.

I hope that some of you can put this info to use and take your Mandalorian helmets to the next level.

The chrome has oil paint weathering applied, and the chrome and oils are sealed under a clear, and another pass of weathering with a different paint used on top of that. That is what gives the helmet its very layered look. If you look at Anovos’ helmet and quite a few fan helmets, the weathering is over the clear and you can really spot the difference. There is also some tone shifting going on which is a result of the weathering process. This one is pretty obvious but the black is on top of the clear coat, not under it.

Yeah, I've definitely noticed people missing that the helmet has two tones of the chrome. It's subtle, but really sets the real helmet apart from most of the replicas. Almost all of the ones I've seen have the whole thing painted the same color. It's interesting that it's just the difference in opacity that does that.

Agree about the helmet tones. They did it with Vader (albeit a lot more obvious) -gives far more impact on the screen.

What do people think, new armor has a new color of flight suit? Dark gray with maybe a hint of purple?

It does look a bit darker than before when he gets his armor upgraded. I think you are right about the dark grey, not sure if it’s really got a hint of purple or not.

I've been working on the vest and cummerbund, I've got some details on them that I haven't seen anyone else include so far. I hopefully will have prototype pics soon.
