For this years RPF secret santa i decided to try a mashup helmet based on a cheap mandalorian helmet with mods and paint inspired by Halo’s Master Chief. I started with some sketches and a digital mockup to get a feel for what a 50/50 split might look like.
This is the helmet i started with. Its a very soft plastic (pvc i think) and was pretty deformed when it arrived so the first step was to try to straighten it out with a heat gun and patience.
I sketched a few ideas but was pretty pressed for time so a lot of it was just trial and error and feeling things out as i went.
I added panels and detailing with styrene sheets, trying to match the look and feel of the master chiefs details.
I didnt document every step as this was a rush job but basically it was a lot of cutting away sections of the helmet, rebuilding with styrene and other misc materials to add details, and repeating.
The last piece was the visor which i cut from a cheap sun visor i found on Amazon. A few layers of paint and some light weathering and it was ready for some glamor shots.
Our final moments together before i sent him off to a new home. This was a lot of fun to build, kinda want to do another and really take my time to take it to the next level.
