Man of Steel (Pre-release)

I'll rent it for sure. As for Returns: more proof that Singer shouldn't be allowed around super hero movies.

Singer's biggest mistake with Superman Returns is he made an homage film to the Donner originals when he really should have made an updated version. Reboots, as much as I normally hate them, really only have a chance to work if they take a different spin on the original... Especially if the original was well received.

I think most of today's "comic book fans" are way too picky (i.e. 20-somethings which most action movies are geared towards). They've been getting these movies their whole lives. Us older fans never imagined any of these characters we used to just see in comics would ever be anything more than that. Well, aside from strapping that bed sheet onto our backs and running around the yard anyway. :p

The new trailer looks amazing, I am really excited about this movie. I just so wish they would use the original score. I remember when they used it on the season ending of Smallville, it bought chills. Using it on this new film would be the icing on the cake.

I think it will be a very good movie, very exciting and very entertaining, but it doesn't feel like Superman. The image is kinda off. Definitely seeing it regardless.

I have to say that I'm a HUGE Superman fan. Loved the first two Donner films and tolerated (barely) the Singer film.

This is the most anticipated movie of the year for me. if they can pull this off, I'll be in geek heaven. From what I've seen so far, I enjoy the themes that they're working with and understand their need to stir things up just enough to generate interest.

I'm in!

Interesting how the movie is billed as man of steel, not superman: the man of steel. Also kinda funny how they 'bleep' out Lois just as she's going to drop the 's' word. I want so much to like this movie, but I have major doubts.

Here's the one iffy thing for me... Zod not only has his sidekick(s), he has one or more military spaceships! :eek

We're all familiar with the classic Zod story... he and his underlings survived Krypton's destruction because they had been exiled to the Phantom Zone, then escaped to cause trouble.

So, HOW does he have a ship, or maybe even a fleet of ships?!? :confused

I'm getting a distinct "Krypton was never destroyed" vibe here, and that worries me. :wacko

Yep - That new trailer is exactly what you look for when a movie is going to underdeliver. "You are here for a reason" -- Hmmm, where have I heard that? "Well, here it's an S - how about Super -craaackkk." Lets go back to Singer's same type of cute little joke "Look, it's a bird, it's a plane it's -- Oh Hi Clark." As Peter Griffith once said "It insists on itself too much." - And while I think he was totally off when it comes to the Godfather - I always took that as meaning a movie is filling itself with it's own self importance - which is what the majority of the shots in this thing look like they are doing. The same reason Antonio Banderas whispers every line - or how M Knight's characters take 20min to reply to a question that he wants you to consider full of weight. Don't let a new coat of paint fool you - (as it has so many times before) this thing is going to bite - or I should say, it won't fill you full of that good stuff that lives in the pit of all of us - the thing that makes you stand a little taller sometimes -- and that is what a Superman movie should do.

You're obviously a purist and I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Hard to honestly pass judgement until the movie comes out.

I've seen both sides of this argument on different internet forums from your rather negative side to the ZOMGMOVIEOFTHEYEAR side of the spectrum. I'll sit somewhere in the middle until June 14th.

That new trailer isn't doing anything for me. The music feels like it's trying a little too hard to sound heroic, and doesn't fit at all with the non-heroic clips they're showing. Color grading doesn't feel right at all for a Superman film, especially with the "hope" theme they're going for.

I'm still going to see it since I'm a DC fanboy, but nothing I've seen of this film thus far instills in me any confidence.

Purist: one who desires that an item remain true to its essence and free from adulterating or diluting influences.

Yep - especially when it comes to storytelling. What I'm not is a novice - I've seen enough films packaged and sold to know just how studios package air but tell you it's bread. I don't pass judgement by simply the trailers and horrible sneak pics - I've read the screenplay (1 draft short of the shooting script - so I have no idea if there are tidbits changed or altered), I know Zack Snyders work - Sucker Punch and Watchmen did nothing for me - I heard the studio is excited about the movie after watching a rough cut - that right there is the deathstroke. I can't remember a time in history where a film the studio is all giddy about is worth the price of admission. Studios are as far removed from what people want as it gets.

I think the reason I have such a problem with this is I am a HUGE Superman fan - I have a Superboy costume from the tv show on display right next to my desk - and I want a good to great movie from these people and I know it aint gonna happen - just like last time. I can put up with all the little Smallvilles and Lois and Clarks but when time comes to drop serious coin on a new Superman movie - I want to be excited about it - nothing in this trailer does that. Not one single shot.

I have an invite to come see this thing about 3 weeks before it's released and I'm considering throwing it away and staying home.

Honestly we have no idea about how the movie is gonna be. The latest trailer shows only a few new little bits but alot of whats been shown before so cant really tell how everything is played out. I usually just try to ignore trailers to base on how a movie will be and just focus on the people they cast and i cant say i have any dissapointment towards any, especially Henry cavill and michael shannon. Now just need to see the movie and see how the story unfolds.

I'll be honest, I always found Superman to be the least interesting of the superhero's in any medium but the latest trailer really DOES get my attention. Perhaps this really will put the super back into Superman.

Goosebumps. Choked up and teary eyed. Seen it several times already and I still can't stop watching the new Man of Steel trailer. Loved the music.

There are some impressive visuals in the new trailer - the flying punches at the end were very cool. But, I'm still not seeing Superman... or at least the Superman that I want to see a movie about... ya know - truth, justice and the American way, the big, bright Superman. This just looks like emo Superman... stuff that we'd expect from Nolan; and if Nolan's version of Batman worked for you - that's great, but Superman and Batman are completely different animals.

If I were the filmmakers for this, I'd completely pass over an origin. Everyone knows it - no sense to burden us with yet another Superman Begins storyline. Sure, you brush by it during the credits or whatever... but, to redo the origin again with all these dark overtones we're seeing here is just... well, meh.

Why would Lois be interrogating/questioning Superman in a military setting? Maybe they're bringing her dad, General Lane into the story; but, still seems very out of place. Of course, who knows what turns in may take... it seems we might not even have him called Superman in the film.

The lack of Clark wearing glasses is very peculiar.

I am a HUGE Superman fan, aways have been, and always will be. This movie has my attention, and after seeing the new trailer, June 14th can't get here fast enough.

Seeing the images of the military "capturing" Superman, and what seems to be an interogation/interview with Lois in the new trailer, this made my mind flash to images from Superman: Earth One, where Superman is greeted with some fear and distrust, and honestly if someone were to show up with those powers, people would FREAK. The comics have the advantage where it can be an idealized world where superheroes are accepted right away, but in the real world that trust would have to bea earned the hard way.

Purists may have many issues with this film, and I completly understand that. Every Superman fan has their favorite version of the character they hold dear and seeing something that doesnt match that interpretation is definetly off putting. But I think that we are going to be getting a version of Superman that rings true to the core of the character. We may be getting a semi-Nolanized view of the last son of Krypton, I believe that just that one line of him saying "It's not an S. On my world it means hope", informs so much of who this character is. Taking the weight of wearing that symbol and exposing your powers to the world to be a force for good, that screams Supeman to me.

I'm very excited for this movie, and I hope it delivers for all of the fans of the man of steel.
