Man of Steel (Pre-release)

"The source goes on to state that the Kryptonian villainess Faora (whom the character of Ursa from "Superman: The Movie" and "Superman: II" was based) will appear alongside General Zod, a role that actor Michael Shannon recently garnered. "

Gee..maybe the Phantom Zone will be a circle instead of a square..then this movie will be totally different than Superman II.

Well, be fair. I mean, they ARE going to lose the poofy black pirate shirts in favor of advacned action suits. So...y'know....it's like...different....and stuff.

Some good news from that link... they're moving on from the Donner films! About frakking time!

By doing a remake of one of them....
Nothing I've read indicates this is going to be a remake. It's Superman, sure there's going to be similarities, but I'd be very skepitical of anyone claiming this is going to be a remake.

I'm hoping they finally move away from late 70s/early 80s movies. I understand people are enamored with Chris Reeve and his portral of Superman. But, it's 30+ years later... a truly new series is over due.

They have MANY years of Superman comics and umpteen villains to choose from..but they chose one (now two) that were done..on film. How is that not a remake?

Have we seen Bizarro? Brainiac? Doomsday? Metallo? No! We sure have seen Zod and "Ursa".

Remake.

I see what JD's getting at. It's true that the bit quoted doesn't actually explicitly say remake. I mean, nothing says he'll reveal who he is to Lois, give up his powers, and only then go back to fight Zod.

But remake or not, making Zod the villain has a VERY "Been there, done that" feeling.

I admit I'm being spiteful with the word "remake" as that certainly isn't their intention, but I am very disappointed we aren't seeing anything new. It could have been something that was a complete departure from previous films and held it's own as original.

The Metallo rumours gave me hope but they fell short. Ideally a great Brainiac battle would have been fun.

There is one good Superman and it's properly titled,

THE MOVIE.

All the rest have been grabs for cash.

Donner wanted to bring Superman to life, he did, it should be left there.

For a while I believed a man could fly, all the resulting sequels have shown otherwise.

They were all made to make money, or else they would've never been funded.

Superman the movie was an example of a property being treated with respect. What Mank and Donner did probably couldn't be done again. Superman the movie was fortunate enough to not have studio execs around. It sucks that the Salkins got greedy and brought in Lester - ruining what what still be today looked at as the definitive book end Superhero movies.

agreein to all points :thumbsup and just look how much money it still made.

I just don't know how they will top John Williams iconic score. I can't imagine anything else but that theme.

You gotta remember, the movie isn't being made for "us," it's being made for the widest possible audience.

Sure, we know Brainiac and Darkseid, but John Q. Popcorn knows Zod, and those same people who were mad at "Superman Returns" because Superman didn't punch nobody or break nuthin' will equate Zod with ass kicking and maybe give Supes another chance.

It's all Hollywood Dollars and Nonsense...
