Man of Steel Fabric update--Warner Bros Studio Museum visit.

Found these on facebook and thought I'd share

Is that body cast a 3D scan of Cavill painted silver and black? Or is that his body cast with sculpted muscles?

Either way, you can tell they used just the silver and black painted cast with the mesh suit over top of it for the displays instead of a body cast, silver suit, and mesh suit combo.

Great pic.

I asked Frontline Design inc. about the Faora armor as I still can't find a scrap of info on it, but it turns out they had nothing to do with it, mainly the undersuits.

"No we didn't. We made the superman costume and a lot of the other specialty costumes but not her armor. We repaired and maintained it during shooting but we did not create the armor. We made elements to her costume worn under the armor."

Awesome thread! A quick question: what is still on display at WB? Is the Catwoman suit there? If so, I'm definitely going down there.

Thanks. I was there a few weeks ago and the Catwoman suit was still out on loan somewhere, along with Bane's outfit, so neither of them were there. I don't know when that situation would change. I might visit again on Monday. As of three weeks ago they had on display the Batsuit and various bat gear, The Joker's complete suit, ra's al ghul (Both Neeson and Watanabe versions) the Scarecrow, the bomb from the end of Dark Knight Rises, and a ton of outfits from 'Man of Steel' all the way down to like, Pa and Ma Kent's clothes.

Hey, thanks! I'm working hard to track down who does the 3d printing for the fabric. It definitely looks like a screen print of some type. I've found the lady Legacy uses, but I've got to go see her to find out about dimensional ink.

Very cool. If you find out anything helpful, please share! :)

You got it. I do know the dimensional print can be done with a silkscreen, but you need a machine to heat set the ink. I'll keep you posted.

What is the true color of the Armour (body trim) that he wears for the film? Is it a Navy blue with a gloss or perhaps a different color? This one is puzzling me.

Silicone printing from what I have heard as far as the chainmail effect goes. Thats how its created.

NO apparently not. Looks like it's being done by someone else on the thread below this one.

I think the colors for the body armor are Midnight blue or Orient Blue. Must find the answer.

The body trim pieces, like the wrist cuffs, obliques, etc. are a dark grayish blue with a metallic powder at the top surface, It looked as though the base color of the appliance was a deep blue with the metallic powder/paint layer giving it a mostly steely appearance on camera. They are a more metallic color than the glossy blue/black of the chainmail details.

Apparently, the dimensional print can be done with a regular screen, it's just the ink that's different. I'm sure there is some experimenting to be done with mesh size, etc to get the best results. To tell you the truth, judging by that fabric close up, it looks more like puff paint printing than silicone, but that's just me. To me the edges don't look as "cookie cutter" as the silicone print.

I've done screen printing before, and I have other projects in mind that require it, so I'm going to get set up myself to do the fabric printing. I'm not saying I could take this project on anytime soon... but I'll keep you posted in case I can help.

I am working with two guys trying to get an accurate MoS suit made and have been following all these post, thanks all you have provided me with great information. I am just debating two ways of making the body trim. I plan on actually making a pattern of it by drawing it on the guys body, similar to how cosplayers make patterns for their worbla armor. Once I have the pattern I am debating cutting it out of rubber sheets or to actually make a mold and make the pieces out of rubber latex (RD-407). Has anyone actually tried to create the body trim and have tips and tricks to help me out?

^ You should check out Kapow7's Superman & Jor-el costume thread.
Thanks! I have been following that thread, it will be helpful for the suit I am consulting on. For the suit I am actually making I am trying to do most of the work myself since the guy is trying to keep the cost down and only wants to get close to the movie suit, but doesn't have to have it exact. I am wondering if anyone out there has actually built the body trim themselves. I see a lot of information on the fabric which is great!! I might try both methods and start a thread of my adventures with it.

Sorry to get off subject here but I had a final question about the cape. After examining the suit up close do you believe it to be in a half circle shape? My thoughts are that it is NOT. Just does not look to be. I guess that is what I am hoping for seeing how I chose to go with a none cirlce for my cape which looks beautiful but may not be wide enough.

Thanks for your help my friend.

i used a half circle with an extended middle section for mine, looks at this pic cape pattern.png
the top pattern is the before you pleat, so you work out how much material you will be pleating to make the middle section of the cape that goes straight down your back from the neck. then decide how long you want your cape to hang, this gives you the radius of the semi circular pieces. then you set your pleats and this pulls in the overall width of the fabric to something closer to a semi circle shape. then instead of using the neck hole as your center point to cut your semi circle you use the points were you made your pleats, what will be the attachement points and you cut your 1/4 circles on both sides leaving a big flat edge at the bottom of the cape. once the cape is on it should hang at the same height and will produce a big wide flowing cape. hope this makes sense. if you want a detailed explanation, head over to the league of heroes board and there is a tutorial on the christopher reeve cape which follows the same basic pattern except differences in the pleats. thats how i made my pattern.
