Man of Steel costume thread

All this hoo-ha over a dude's speedo's is rather amusing :lol I mean seriously they changed Iron Man all over and yet I didn't blow a gasket even though I really liked the look of his silver and red armor way back during the armor wars.

Superman has been around for eighty years,a little change is good, otherwise why not just re-read all his old comics? if he stays the same might as well not make any new stuff :unsure

And take Batman,he was always blue and gray when I was a kid which I thought was ridiculous he's supposed to be a friggin' BAT so how'd blue get in there? I started to like him more when they dumped that idiot Robin and changed him to black and gray, then armored him up-change is good! :thumbsup

I'm gonna see what they do with the guy, even though most DC films suck, and maybe enjoy the new take on The Man of Steel..and I'm not even a fan!

Yea I'll shut up now.

Batman's costume was originally black and grey with some blue highlights for detail. So it's nothing new. More blue was added later to the costume in the '60's for contrast, but it was implied to be a very dark blue. He also started without Robin, and may have remained a lone wolf if the comic's code back in the '50's hadn't required The Batman to tone down his violent ways and add some kid to lighten the character up. He actually had killed innocents using a machine gun in one particular story in the early years.

The armor gimmick was presented by Buton's Batman film. And I recall some noise amoung fans about that at the time.

Change is good? Maybe. I just think the suit looks like the longjohns I've been saying they are.

Iron Man always had other types of armor laying around - Batman stayed true or has always remained close to the design Bob Kane came up with. The bummer over the change to Superman is HE DOESN'T NEED IT. This is just anotehr gimmick that , like much of Snyder's little tricks, will date the film. This design has no chance in staying longer than a year.

I dunno,I suppose you are right about a belt making a good split from top and bottom, other then that it looks good.

After looking at the safe pic once again - i will post another positive - i LOVE the way the boots adhere to his leg. They look like a sock/boot hybrid.

And thats the frustrating part of this costume. The boots look great! The shield looks good! The cape (though needs an \S/) Looks good. Basketball skin I can live with if this is tehfabric from Krypton angle...but the solid blue body, lacking detail in the abdomen looks like its missing something and looks weird. And really just talking from a design standpoint here, not a massive fan who needs the wrestling briefs. It really needed some read between the boots and the shield some how. IMO.

I dunno.

I dislike the texture. I hate that it looks like the same texture on everything... the S shield, the boots, it all looks like the same. Very little contrast and everything looks to be the same material... even the bits that you'd expect to be different.

I strongly dislike the raised shield. They took an element from Superman Returns that I didn't like and made it worse.

Yes, no Supershorts makes the costume look terrible. There's no aestheric value... no classic Superman look. Just a plain bad idea.

While I'm no fan of the change they made to the Superman shield that's been relatively the same for the last 50 years or so, I love how big it is on this costume. It's especially nice after Superman Returns shrunk it.

I could get accustomed to the darker colors. I still feel Supes is more of a bright, shining beacon of hope rather than drowned out and muted. Dark works for Batman - not Superman.

The cape. From these early looks - it's finally something they got right. I hope this things just flows while in flight just like it looks it would.

Henry Cavill sure looks the part despite a very bad costume. We're finally getting away from Christopher Reeve (which Brian Singer seemed to try to turn Brandon Routh into for obvious reasons). Reeve will always be a lot of folks' Superman... but, it was 30 years ago.

Sorry, but this unitard look is awful.

Thanks for posting the new pic!

Yeah, the red shorts and yellow belt would make it pretty good if not "perfect"... A red belt or something to at least break up all that blue would have been nice. :unsure

And he's got that buckle thing... I dunno. Maybe it'll grow on me before the movie hits in 2013. Right now I'm just not digging it.

I played very quick in photoshop for traditional and adding red as not shorts using the suits new curved lines for kicks.

Not sure if it improves but...

What if his cape is, like, retractable ... wrapping into his belt buckle along those lines. Could explain how he hides the damn things under his clothes.

Thanks for posting pics! Didn't think I was going to like the New look!! Not too bad! He definitely looks the part! Hope the movie does well!! Want to see more DC movies!
