Man of Steel costume thread

Im ok with changes, but they just havent got this one right yet. If you want to get rid of the red shorts, fine, but what they have replaced them with just looks weird.

The Batman movies came up with something way cooler than what Adam West was wearing. But if you cant come up with something better that what Superman was already wearing, leave it alone.

Im sure I will still go see it. I loved Watchmen.

It's an alien suit I suppose. With this particular suit, I no longer need the trunks or the belt.

Ready for it.

This is a version 1 suit, and it'll suffer enough battle damage during the movie that they'll reveal the traditional Superman costume in the final moments of the film, gearing up for the sequel.

^^^^That is what I'm hoping and praying to hear from the studio!

Well, my dad works at a corporate office at a company that needed info about building an exact replica of a store. Turns out it's for the Superman movie. He may get to go see the set and watch them film soon. I'll keep you guys/gals posted if I can tag along or if he gets a chance to snap any pics....or can provide any info!

Probably something more like a joke, the way they mentioned "yellow spandex" in the first X-men. Maybe a shot of Clark in just his red underwear. LOL

I see the term Regal from time to time regarding this costume and it got me to thinking. There really isn't anything Regal about Kal-El. He wasn't born of royal blood. He is the son of a scientist who was mocked and laughed at by the High Council members of Krypton. Kal-El - Clark - Superman doesn't need to be set up as being anything more.

He is a being with the power of a god, so now he has to look like one, too? (I'm not a symbol of Hope, I'm your God. Obey me!) The thing about the classic costume, with the red trunks, made him a man of action. The all blue suit with mandarin collar looks more like a formal outfit than something to be worn while he's at work.

While the term "regal" does mostly mean having to do with royalty, it can also be used purely as a descriptive term without inferring royal birth, behavior or attitudes. I merely intended it on a simple aesthetic level. The appeal to me for the character is that he COULD rule by force if he wanted to but instead chooses to help.

The collar looks better to me than the low-cut version on this particular no-shorts design but if it conveys some message of royal arrogance for you, well... Uh, okay. Can't say I see it the same but that's cool. If you read any of the comics, you might want to get used to it though because they're going to be using it a lot it seems. :angel Obviously I dig it personally.

Just speaking for myself, I don't get the part about the shorts conveying that he's a man doing his job but that's cool if you see it that way... I like them because they're the classic look but I never thought too hard about what they implied about his character.

No offense to those that worked to make this costume, but every time I look at it it makes me think I could purchase it off of a Rubies dealer.

I've been seeing this a lot, too, on the internet and the response of many fans is basically, "No, we don't like it and don't have to get used to it."

I guess it will all be a matter of choice to many fans that recognize the iconic costume over some dodge to a legal issue to avoid paying royalties to someone or trying to "modernize" the character for some reason. Sales of the comics and at the box office will tell.

I truly wish people would stop with the Reeve comments. What made him such a good superman? That he was tall and had a semi build to superman?

I think that for this age/time the costume we have infront of us is good. It has its flaws but so does christopher nolan's Batman. You will never get the perfect costume for Superman. What we do have, Is a GREAT update on a traditional costume.

Here is some manips that I have come by and think how the perfect costume should look.

I can say with 100% confidence this new movie will not have one scene - not one -- that even comes close to matching this --

Superman-The Movie: Restored International Extended Helicopter/Lois Rescue - YouTube

Wanna know why - simply because some would consider this corny, not hip enough - not DARK ENOUGH - like the new costume.

And all this costume is (even though I LOVE the S) is change for the sake of change. A way to get new toys in the bargain bin at Wal-Mart to replace the Green Lantern ones that are there right now. Visionary junk. To me this guy looks more like someone Superman should be fighting.

read me sig… :cry

oh and by the way:

Is it supposed to be ironic that they're using a Superman logo from 1992? Or is it just laziness?

Superman just died for me. Ok, maybe not... I will give it a chance. But, with the DCNu launching yesterday and this costume just looking horrendous, I don't have much hope.

No sir, I don't like it.
I didn't really have a problem with them loosing the red undies, but all that 'costume designer vomit' on the side is tacky and serves no purpose (just like the new spiderman costume).

This guy looks jacked. I agree with alot of the design complaints - especially those rased swooshes on his sides, they really serve no purpose and makes things a little over-designed.
I won't let my complaints about the costume judge the movie though. We will see...

Well,I don't like them, but the do make him look less naked.
but I do like the spidey costume.

That's true... you don't have to get used to it or like it but with the Siegels and Shusters winning the 2009 lawsuit, there's a very real possibility the red shorts will never return for the WB version of Superman I think.

Apparently there's some issue about the 2009 lawsuit not having been enforced yet or something. I'm not a lawyer so I'm not going to pretend to understand it all - but I'm guessing WB are hedging their bets and avoiding future lawsuits by just changing the character now, maybe permanently. I'm guessing part of avoiding further lawsuits includes... er... the dropping of the shorts so-to-speak... since the red shorts were part of the original costume that the Siegels and Shusters now apparently own the rights to.
