Mal Pistol,...Bronze or Gold?

After watching Mal and his pistola,...in some shots it looks to be gold based and in some shots it seems to be bronze based. Whats the mass concensus on this? I know it's heavily weathered, but what is the base color?
Either TV series and/or movie (though they should be the same,...right?)

Thats why i painted my resin gun bronze

The Firefly version looks to me like brass. I opted to go for gold on my resin gun, and I actually think it turned out pretty good.

I am almost 100% positive that it was cast brass...though the difference in brass and bronze is just the ammount of copper in the metal.
