making a human brain

Here's one for you. How hard do you think it would be to sculpt a human brain and how accurate do you think it should be given it will be in a jar (in this case on top of a robot)? The more i look at the prices of model kits and jello molds and the fact that its not going to be handled the less i think i really need to buy one since i have a ton of super sculpty. I can make the individual pieces to bake before assembling it.

Easy to make.

At first I thought you were building Hector. (Saturn 3)

Actually those are the two exact kits i was looking at on amazon. i'm just not sure i want to pay that much for something that won't be seen. If i could find a 1:1 jello mold at least its only 7-10.00. i may end up getting one of these kits just seems like alotta cash. i may try and sculpt one first. i have a want ad up in the JY but i doubt i get hits.

Well as a psychology study who has regular contact with various anatomy, including brains, I'd say sculpting one depends on a few things. What condition is the brain going to be in. ie. are we assuming the dura and pia matter are removed, what condition the blood vessels and cranial nerves are in. Also what medium the brain is to be suspended in. I actually have a human brain in a jar preserved in fluid in my lab. If it would help you I can try to take pictures of it. I don't know how well they'll come out though.

Can you just use a real brain? I know many people who aren't using theirs.

- Thanks, I'll be here all week!

I have seen several toys of anatomical products like a heart and possibly a brain. have you tried looking in toy stores?
Seems like it would be fairly easy to sculpt...

I seem to remember seeing a marshmallow brain in the halloween candy section this year. Probably to late to find one now, but you never know.

Amazon has a good selection of stuff but i just don't want to spend alot on something that will just sit there. The photos in Fallout of the robobrain isn't very detailed so i plan on including all the parts and part of the spinal chord just for my variation. In the games they're suspended in a nutrient gel of dubious origins lol. Actually i don't think sculpting would be too hard other than the ridges. The hard part is getting the sizes of the parts just right. I found a model on amazon just the right price but its pocket sized.

lol. Actually the funny thing is in the games they always are. They're either from prisoners or they've gone insane.

Years ago, I bought one of those dehydrated toy brains that grow to actual size when you soak them in water. I kept it in a jar for several years (at least 3) and it looked pretty convincing. I added a dash of red food coloring to the water for added effect.

A few years ago i had to make an exploding brain for a tv show within two days, i bought a jelly or jello mould of a lifesize brain and used that, could work for your project,

Yeah i found a jello mold on amazon for 8.00 but i'm not sure it is life size. 40.00 is a bit more than what amazon is asking. I'm going to attempt to sculpt one first and go from there. It shouldn't be too bad. I'll laugh if i can find a pep file for a human brain.

I don't know.:confused The materials might cost as much or more than getting the plastic brain outright. Were you planning to use sculpy? That's pricey stuff.

I actually have 10 lbs of super sculpty sitting around. i've had it for 3 years now when i wanted to start sculpting. This would be good practice for learning to do it that's for sure.
