Machined Iron Man Arc Reactor:

I have wanted to make an ironman "proof" since seeing the movie a couple of years ago.

After seeing the great propworx display...and having a week off of work...I started.

The inspiration is the actual screen used prop and the artwork from the "Art of Ironman" book.

I started with the machined aluminum fins and back section. The fins were blackened and then filed/knocked back a bit to give it a slight worn look.

I machined out the mating piece for all of the fins to attach. Drilling and tapping was used instead of glue since I was worried about things bumping off while working on it.

I have included a pic of the original prop from the auction for any one who might be thinking about making one as well.

Thanks for looking

Re: Machined Iron Man RT

Next up was the "chassis" section shown in the art of ironman book. The book doesnt show the blue capacitors that the actual prop had so a few slight changes had to be made. This part was sand blasted to give it a different finish/texture without having to go into paint.

The brass assembly which is in the center of the RT was also machined and soldered together.

Cave...check
palladium...check

A ton of patience......grrr

I was stalling on the section with the spun copper wire only because I knew 10 of them was going to be a bit of a brute.

The art book illustrated tiny cap screws on each of the windings that I thought was a nice touch so I included them. They are #0 cap screws to get an idea of the size.

And this is where I am at. Sucking it up and doing all of the windings today wasnt in the cards.

Next stop is to finish up the remaining bits, electrical, and start in on the case.

Thanks to all who helped out with the font question I had yesterday.

Have you thought about selling a kit? I'd love to put one together myself!
