Well, I've been on here 1 year this week and figured to celebrate I'd post my first build with pics. Everything else I've posted was already finished and didn't have WIP pics. Although there are only a few (I'm bad about taking pics when I work), it kinda shows where it started and ended. Well, almost ended. I started getting rushed toward the end and started cutting corners. After getting these pics set up, I realize how I don't like numerous parts and will be going back to correct them. I still have to do the trigger guard portion also.
This is the M79 Grenade launcher, made popular during the Vietnam war. It is one of the props I'm working on for my Vietnam zombie gig I'm doing for D*Con 2011 (from the one off comic, '68').

It looks quite good. Are you doing dummy rounds for it?

Re: M79 Grenade Launcher - Scratchbuilt WIP

That's a fine job to be sure mate and I look forward to seeing it finished.

As a grunt, we had those around us for a good few years and in general terms this works for me a treat!

Congratulations and cheers for sharing

Yeh, I plan on making a few to wear in a belt. Gotta find some good reference pics.

Looks amazing., what did you use for the front site?

Its sintra and styrene, cut on a scroll saw. Thats one part I want to redo. I drilled my holes for the knob slightly off center and it sets crooked in the down position. Also, I wanted to add the elevation markings to it and screws and details that are missing right now.

Super sweet!

Check the Bay for 40mm inert grenades. Might save you some work.

Re: M79 Grenade Launcher - Scratchbuilt WIP

One of my favorite real world firearms! I actually started this project myself (which fizzled before I got very far...typical) as the base for a custom Mando weapon. Excellent job!

Re: M79 Grenade Launcher - Scratchbuilt WIP

very nice work on the m79. if your looking for a new project try making a "China Lake ex41" a prototype pump action grenade launcher that was used during the vietnam war

Re: M79 Grenade Launcher - Scratchbuilt WIP

Very cool! I think I've only seen one other scratch built M79. I've wanted to do that myself (too cheap to buy an airsoft version, and I like building things, anyway), but haven't gotten to it yet. Good job! Bigger pictures would be nice, too. :)

Re: M79 Grenade Launcher - Scratchbuilt WIP

That is by far the best scratchbuilt M79 I've ever seen. If you need some reference pics or measurements let me know. I have a sweet M79 airsoft replica.

Re: M79 Grenade Launcher - Scratchbuilt WIP

Looks great! Will you be selling these? I am looking for a T2 one.

Re: M79 Grenade Launcher - Scratchbuilt WIP

Thanks for all the comments. I should have new pics in the next week or so.

Thanks, but unfortunately I'm gonna have to make them myself. This build is for a con costume, and I want the grenades to be mini flasks! Saves time going back and forth to the room. Got the prototype about ready. Just testing it for leakage.

That's nice! Never seen it before. I'm surprised it didn't come up in any of my searches.

I finally finished the trigger guard and am getting some new pics. I'll post them soon.

Probably not. All the parts are hand cut with a scroll saw and then sanded to shape. As long as it takes to make and for what I'd have to charge, you could probably buy an airsoft version.

Re: M79 Grenade Launcher - Scratchbuilt WIP

Whatever you do, don't paint the grenades with blue tips!! Those are paint rounds.
Here I am with the M79's baby brother, the M320, after going through training with it, hahaha:

That's pretty sweet. I was about to ask where the rest of it was until I looked it up online. Does that use the same rounds?

Thanks. The grain came out pretty good. I was pissed that I cut the wood without noticing the knot that was right on the lower edge. And I had plenty of wood to avoid it, just got careless. At least it didn't fall out and leave a gaping hole!
