Luna's Ultimate Spider-Man Build, Orhadar Print. [Pic Heavy]

Hey there Lunaman before I ask my question I just wanna let you know I literally made an acount to compliment you on the best Spidey costume I've ever seen!
Now to my question I read the past comments and noticed no one asked about the cool looking spider web bag you had on with your costume. So my question is did you buy or make the backpack bag? And if so, how?

Again amazing costume! :D

i love this build it really sparked my interest to make a super accurate scarlet spider, just as this is the BEST spiderman! great stuff Luna, anyway as for the web pack i make a slightly different version out of a helmet and some yarn, i have a tutorial on my thread if you want to check it out its pretty simple and you can hold a lot of stuff at the cons. http://www.therpf.com/f78/2014-scarlet-spider-build-209570/

Thanks for the kind words!

I made the bag myself. It's a pretty simple build, and cheap. I started with a child's blank white facemask from a craft store. It provided the basic structure. Then I sewed together a white covering/bag out of spare lycra scraps. I made the straps out of rexlace that I wove though holes I punched in the facemask and then covered the outside with layers of the same lace to look like webs, and added some hot glue details to anchor the everything and make the details look a little more organic. The result was a handy little bag that I could keep my cellphone, keys, and ID inside. :)

Did you darken the emblem with the quilting pens as well? Any chance you have a pic of that?

Thanks for the compliment! Yea, there's lots of ways to make a pack, good job! I went with the smaller, low profile pack because I think the big ones tend to look a little awkward, but you definitely need a bigger bag if you want to bring or buy a lot of stuff. :)

I was running out of microns by the time I got to the emblem, so what I did was darken the entire outline, the tips of the legs, and then added some details to the interior that you can only see in certain light. I thought it looked cool, and it saved me from wasting all the ink on the spider.

You can catch a glimpse of the detail in this picture:

hey buddy, i got the same shoes as you in your thread, taking off the heel wasn't a problem. Removing the soles from the upper part of the shoe is really tough.. just wondering did you use a razor blade to cut/separate it? meaning cause the fabric i think is stuck to the sole...right?

I started the separation with a bone folder and then used a utility knife to assist bit by bit (making sure to cut the adhesive or sole layer, not the fabric upper.) It is indeed really tough, just remember to make slow and steady progress bit by bit and prioritize safety rather than speed or force.

thanks so much buddy.. this is the last final piece then my suit will be done =D

Just phenomenal. I keep on seeing photos of this suit pop up in places and it's definitely one of my favorites.

I had a question though, what did you use for the chest spider logo? It has such a clean glossy look to it and I haven't seen anything like it before.

Thanks very much! The chest spider is simply the regular printed lycra, I just used Pigma micron pens to darken the outline and edges and do some subtle contouring and details that show in the right light, like the gradient on the legs and the hourglass on the abdomen.

Oh I see that now. What a cool effect, been looking glossy to me this whole time. Looks good!

Hey Luna. I made some lenses and formed them to a face shell but it doesn't seem to fit my face without it. Do your eye pieces fit well around your face or do they sort of "hover" in the eye/nose area?

The eye pieces fit well around my face, since my head is very similar to the shape of the faceshell. The frames dont contact my face at the center corner of the eyes near the nose, but neither would a normal spandex mask stretched across my face. Masks ride from high point to high point, and the center nose/eye area is a low point compared to the high points of the brow and nose. The primary points of contact for the frames are the cheek bones, outer orbit, forehead and brow. I suppose you could say they float in the center, but the point is that they match the way the mask wraps around the face, so that the fabric and eye can mate smoothly all the way around.

Okay cool. Thank you. I formed my first frames(on my symbiote suit) to my face. But my new versions needed more heat to manipulate them, so I used the face shell(Wal-Mart Spider-Man mask) this time. I just remembered you used a face shell to shape yours frames and they look, well.. pretty @#%$ perfect. Just had to ask Thanks man.

Sure thing (and thanks for the compliment). One thing I'd caution is that the kids masks you can get at walmart or target are a little wider than normal human faces, so your resulting curve might be a bit shallow. I would double check by comparing the orverall curve of the shell to the overall curve of your face, using something like aluminum foil to hold the curve.

Good idea! And if the shell's curve is shallow, would you have any other suggestions? I thought of a ducked tape dummy but I don't think it would withstand the pressure and kinda just sink in. Sorry if I'm drifting to far away from the point of your thread. I can pm you if you'd prefer.

No worries, maybe other people have similar concerns. You could always just foil cast your face and then use clay mache or clay to strengthen the form. Or make a forming block out of wood once you've measured the curve. Just depends what tools and materials you have available.

Haha I don't have much at hand but I think I can manage to figure something out. Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.

Just came by to say once again, such a gorgeous looking suit!
Can't wait to work on mine in a month or so, talked a bit with tjack to get a custom frame more accurate ultimate spider-man frame with a little twist in it. I love what you done, it looks awesome and original. :)
But now with others doing the same thing eh not original on there end and wouldn't be very original on my end, it may not make sense since almost all spidey suits are doing the same thing for example tasm2 all same frames etc..
