Looks great, I really like the dark buildup around the emitter, and I like how dark the bronze/brass/copper neck is - I feel like the ref photos of the TFA version go pretty dark, too. What did you use for the copper/bronze and how did you do the darkening around the emitter?

For the brass I first painted it black,then I used vellago paints,I first did a color called brassy brass,then I mixed some black in and did a wash with that.then mixed old gold and black and did another wash,then I mixed olive drab and brassy brass and did another wash and one last wash with brassy brass mixed with black.for the emitter I just did a few washes in black,olive drab and a really watered down wash in brassy brass and black.

Yes, they are considered pliers. They work opposite from normal pliers because when you close the handle, it pushes the blades out, hence chain spreaders. Then you close it by putting the spreader outside the chain link. They work great, but again, it's a matter of opinion and spending more funds.

Those are great thank you! I think, for AS sink knobs, you have to remove a small section in the center before expanding the D ring. The holes for the D ring are a certain length across, which means the flat part can't swing closed unless it's shorter in length. May be the case with the Tri Ring on ROTJ saber cubes.

Guess it's time to revive this thread since the final parts have been shipped we can finally finish our TFA Luke's.
Mine mostly finished. I say mostly because I'm having trouble getting the dirt/brown right on the top of the control box.
I also made a modification to my control box because I wasn't happy with how high the add on rails sat on the control box.

This is the unmodified box and rails.

In my eyes it looks the the rails start about half way up the cards height so that's where I have mine now. I put my control box on my mill and took 1.5mm off the top. Which I'm now quite happy with. Looks closer to the OT Luke that the TFA was based off of.
Anyways without further ado...

I think copper. Copper in shadow looks brown, and given that every version of Luke's saber sans the V2 had a copper neck, I'm sure that's what they went with.

I'm second guessing the color under the emitter. I'm seeing copper, darker and other however the stock photo looks brown to me. Am I alone in this or completely off. If so, what colors are you guys using? I'm guessing the black is flat or matte.

i should have taken the picture of what i had in my hands as lowes... i was working on han solo's dice from TFA visual dictionary and found this paint at lowes which i personally think is a perfect match for the dice...

this is the color i was debating, i put my shop light next to it. you can purchase this same shop light at lowes in the isle with all the truck tool boxes, you can go to that isle grab this light just to use as a example in the lowes paint isle.

why do i keep bringing these dice up in a lightsaber thread?! because I'm wondering.. we have heard rumors they spray painted chessex dice for solo to hang in the falcon. which the scene was cut (though u can still see them hanging for a split second) so they had this brass color on hand, i wonder if they used the same color for the saber??

i also thought of the female droid from man's castle. her color seems to match the color of lukes saber

Man, studying that photo is tough. I see aged copper all the time working in the trades, and that still looks brown to me. Even the dirtiest of copper hasn't looked like that. Heck, it's only paint so I will just go for an aged metal brownish color and see where I end up.

brown is one of my go to colors. i usually always wear brown, easy to match cloths i guess. so yes, i see browns everywhere i go too. the last picture is filled with golden, brown color, which is probably a camera filter but that droids brown/brass/bronze color i really like

i also try and think simple, as a prop builder a lot of time the same material is used, because they are always pressed for time and have it laying around. the same weathering paint they used on R2 looks as though they used it on the control box as well.

its exclusively sold in the UK and no online store has it... trying to get a UK member to buy it and ship it to me. though... i dont know what customs would do once it got in the states, IF they could even ship it over seas... i dont think you can fly aerosol cans

I also saw this other "antique copper" one on the right. I may eventually try on something else as it looks interesting...
It was just mentioned that it looks almost more of a brown and I agree. That's the exact reason I went with the brass color for the brown hue even though we all know it should be copper like the ROTJ Luke.

So the colors I used are "Antique Brass Metallic", Satin Black Epoxy Paint, and some brown and black acrylic here and there or weathering.

Take a good look at the wedding ring and compare color. His gold ring looks like it's tarnished and not polished. Brass would be considered going off his ring so it's not brass. Copper has more red tones so is it bronze?

As far as your photo, I think I like the antique copper. It's a little darker. Also makes more sense seeing how copper was the rotj hero and because copper ages, perhaps that's the one.
