Luke TFA Behind the Scenes Lightsaber Community Build Thread

Re: Anakin Starkiller Luke TFA Lightsaber Build Thread

Yes hopefully will be able to get one of those and maybe have my box 3D printed and cast to metal

Re: Anakin Starkiller Luke TFA Lightsaber Build Thread

Yes I do too also I believe the copper part of the saber is like a mixture of brown and copper I'm not sure

Anakin Starkiller Luke TFA Lightsaber Build Thread

if we only had a clearer imagine :(

My thoughts everyday. The battle in my head is to go for what I "think" it looks like or wait til the next image.
Just my luck I'll finish it and the next day the image comes out. Or even worse we get an image and Luke has his hand over the control box haha.
I'm going to be waiting at least til after celebration next week before I do anything. Just in case.

Re: Anakin Starkiller Luke TFA Lightsaber Build Thread

image.jpegI brighten the image

Re: Anakin Starkiller Luke TFA Lightsaber Build Thread

I'm thinking maybe 3mm high rails then taking off 3mm or even slightly more since it was already mentioned earlier that the overall box may be a little high.
Just waiting on my box to arrive to decide.

Re: Anakin Starkiller Luke TFA Lightsaber Build Thread

I got 3.2mm for the height of the rails, so I think were all seeing the same thing. The only part I'm having a hard time with is the width, I think the sides of the rails are flush with the sides of the control box, then hang slightly over the card side.

Danny, great idea using a 3D printer for a mock up! I was waiting on some metal in the correct thickness but will 3D print while I wait!

Re: Anakin Starkiller Luke TFA Lightsaber Build Thread

you know i only had this saber in my hands for 5-10 minutes and i think the sides of the control box are straight. if you put the box on the saber and hold it at the same angles in the picture and look at the box corners, the box dad made sure looks like it has alittle angle just like in the picture...

im kinda changing my mind to straight sides until better pictures arise. either way dans saber is a masterpiece in my eyes

Kind of surprised you haven't started working on it yet. Lol

Re: Anakin Starkiller Luke TFA Lightsaber Build Thread

image.jpegI spray painted a copper pipe and I think i got the color for the copper piece what do you all think? I left copper to show contrast from the brown

I've had such a hellish weekend i needed this saber to take my mind off it. i think this is be on display in raw aluminum form for awhile until tom comes out with his triangles and cards

Re: Anakin Starkiller Luke TFA Lightsaber Build Thread

The more I look at the image I'm seeing less of the angle on the box. The left side of the box looks like an angle but the right side looks straight. I feel like the image is playing tricks on us with the angle.
So at this time I'll just be modifying the rails only.
Also It does seem a little weird that the prop masters for TFA would choose to make that modification. I could see adding the emitter details maybe to call back to OBI or maybe just a personal touch but modding the box in that way seems odd.

if you plan on building more light sabers in the future, it may be worth it to buy a chain spreader sold at ace hardware. its used to open and close fixture chain. I have one because I'm an electrician and I use it for work. they cost around 15 dollars. it will open and close the ring with no problem and wont cause any damage.

Re: Anakin Starkiller Luke TFA Lightsaber Build Thread

Thanks for the tip, you mean the pliers type right? I just ordered mine from ebay $11 shipped

Yes, they are considered pliers. They work opposite from normal pliers because when you close the handle, it pushes the blades out, hence chain spreaders. Then you close it by putting the spreader outside the chain link. They work great, but again, it's a matter of opinion and spending more funds.
