Limited Run Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 37)

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

Is there anywhere in the film where he is seen with the V3 (I assume V3 is the one similar to the Hero but with a Graflex Clamp?)

the V3 is very similar to the V2 but still has its seam lines from casting showing (whereas I believe the V2 was cleaned up on a lathe?) it was re painted post ROTJ & foil tape added to look closer to the hero

my feeling is that the V3 was the stunt seen in ANH with the Brown neck & greyish emitter

There is a picture of Vader holding it during ROTJ (Endor Rehearsal?)

I am told that it was used for the Death Star duel?

Of course I may be wrong

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

Actually, to be fair, anything with a neck groove is from ANH and anything without is a Hero/Yuma from ROTJ. Since the ANH props were all identical in shape it's hard to tell them apart, though I can say the V2 had the long lever and that probably never came off.

here I used one of those collars with the set screw! To give everyone an idea - it's easy to trial and error this when you just have to unscrew a grub screw too move them. All you do is let the rod fall with the collar on and the bearing in front of it and it will sandwich itself into place. My collar is about 1/16 above the bottom of my rod, but I think all the rods are different! I then dabbed some epoxy above the bearing, slid it up and down to "suck" the epoxy under the bearing and put it back in place. Wiped off the excess glue and unscrewed the collar when it started to set (just to make sure it doesn't get glued too)

That's the way I wanted to do it, too. But I use only the collar now. The bearing won't go all the way through the saber. It stuck half the way through the grenade and won't go farther. So the rod sticking out of the neck would be too short.
Don't know why the bearing didn't fit quite right but the collar does.

My bearing/saber was that way too - bearing stuck partially in. I used a dowel and mallet to (carefully) press fit the bearing all the way into the end of the bore. But it's in there permanently now, lol. If you wanted to risk it, that would probably work on yours too, but you've got a good working solution so there's no reason to mess with it :)

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

Just FYI all stencil orders have shpped out except one I didn't get an address for (and that member has been contacted via PM).

I also have extras so if you want one, now would be a good time as I can send them out the same day.

Thanks!

Finished mine on Thursday - I want this to weather naturally.

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

Excellent photography trick, trying to copy the ones at SWCA! mirror and black box?
I searched my home for a black mirror. No luck of course.
But I had an old 32" flat screen standing around in my working room. I flipped it on the side and used it as black mirror. After that I blackened the background via Photoshop. Never thought it would work as well as it turned out.

Get well Dan!

I am down for the second run, will people who asked earlier and missed out be automatically put on that list, or do we need to join the list when you post for people to sign up for one?

Thanks

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

I would definitely be interested in getting in on a second run

What's the part name/number of these collars? I feel like someone posted it before but I missed it.

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

Hmm, I bought mine off ebay. They were 5/16" Shaft collars, plain old ones - can't link to a live auction but they were 3 dollars for 2.

Re: Luke ROTJ V2 lightsaber- based on the new info from SWCA (UPDATE PG 12)

I wonder if the grip rings are in fact a smidgen too thick, or it's a trick of the light on the original prop. It could also be, as someone already mentioned, that Dan provided the correct ring thickness to the shop (which i'm leaning towards since he had said earlier many of his measurements came from a shared/stunt which has the same ring thicknesses), and the shop just erred on the side of caution when grinding the grooves, and didn't quite grind them deep enough to thin out the rings sufficiently.

Dan, when you get a chance, would you mind measuring one of the finished sabers you're keeping for yourself and see if the thickness is what you specified? If not, those who want the rings slightly thinner could just get a shop to grind the grooves a bit deeper.

Wouldn't that be nice. This is like the super secret run. From the time it was first mentioned I checked every day for like...four months. Then only about once a month after that...and missed it. I feel like to get on this list you have to either be lucky, or just keep checking this board forever.
