Re: Luke on Tauntaun Stop motion replica?

Just got the email to let me know it will be ready for casting from tonight PST, I'm so excited to see the final shots of the completed Taun.... onwards & upwards.

Re: Luke on Tauntaun Stop motion replica?

Of all the creature sin the entire Star Wars saga, THIS one is my favorite. Thanks for taking this on, and I cant wait to see the final product. It looks PHENOMINAL! (y)thumbsup

Re: Luke on Tauntaun Stop motion replica?

I also can't wait to see a final result. The Tauntaun was my favorite creature until the Rancor came along. It's hard to decide between the two.

Re: Luke on Tauntaun Stop motion replica?

Your confused, I understand, let me tell ya, its the Taun all the way :lol

Re: Luke on Tauntaun Stop motion replica?

WOW, she's 98% done just some minor detail to be added but this is looking absolutely stunning. I am totally amazed at how well this has turned out & how amazing it looks.

Here is loads of pics, I'm so buzzing about this.

Just the toes & the tale tip to do, & a tiny bit of work here & there. The ears will be done in sculpley & cast in silicone like the hands.

Re: Luke on Tauntaun Stop motion replica?

I have to say even if this was just a static sculpt it is amazing, the best Taun ever done as far as I am aware, so to be posable as well is just going to be so cool. I cant stop looking at her, Wow.

Re: Luke on Tauntaun Stop motion replica?

Again, i'd be interested in a static display because I know the fully articulated model would be well out of my price range. Any chance this may happen? Please, please ,please?

Re: Luke on Tauntaun Stop motion replica?

Hi all, I have a request of those that would be interested in one of thee. To get a replica of this model will not be cheap but if I can bring costs down then obviously I will. For those people that are very keen & understand the possible costs involved! could you pm me with your opinion on a few things? If I'm to make this work I dont want to shell out $$$$$$ & find out that its only me that wants one. Although I am having it made for myself foremost If I can adapt it to a run then obviously I will.

I would like to know

1.Would you only buy one if the armature is all singing & dancing like the original, or would just basic movement be good enough ie: arms, legs, etc. Enough to repose it from a basic stance but not full on running across Hoth's snow fields?

2. If its done with synthetic hide as apposed to real Calf fur, would this be a problem. I do believe I can get real calf fur but there are strict guidelines in the UK about such things.

3. if it wasn't to the exact same scale as the original but proportionally correct, would this be a no no? I am aiming to get it as damn close as possible but may be limited to certain armatures that aren't hand made? There wont be a drastic size difference.

I'm looking into using stock armature with custom made add ons if possible.

This info will help me decide which way to approach this project.

The original used muskrat fur if memory serves me correctly. This also had foam rubber shaved down to pad the inside with the animal pelt over it. The joints were covered with thinly shaved foam rubber,so that it could be posed, and not stiff,or ridgid,or returning to the orginal position before the foam covering was applied. This way it could be fully posable without damaging the animal pelt,or dislodging any of the components attached to it. I don't think it wrong to make this a little smaller than the studio prop,as long as it's proportional! The original used an eight inch Luke Skywalker figure(from head to foot),so this looks to be damn bloody close!

Re: Luke on Tauntaun Stop motion replica?

Hi Newbie, it was actually fetal calf fur that was used backed with latex but good memory all the same.

Things are progressing very well, the molds are being made & the Luke armature should be done for next week so that the figure sculpt can begin. Still a long way away from completion but with every step it just gets better & better. My guy does read this thread so its great that there has been so many positive comments & thanks to all for following this cool journey where on. As soon as I have something to report I wil straight away.

Re: Luke on Tauntaun Stop motion replica?

Its just the attention to detail the fella is putting in Guy, it oozes class, some may have cheated and not sculpted in the muscle tone etc, but i love the fact he went that extra mile...well strike that, a hundred miles :lol and really knocked the sculpt out the park!
Always eager to see more of this beauty!
