Well what can I say, its been just shy of 15 months since my first post in this thread. This morning my Taun arrived safe & sound. what a moment opening the box & finally seeing it in the flesh.
I am totally blown away, its not hard to appreciate the level of skill involved in making this incredible replica, but when its in your hands it is unbelievable the amount of talent Jim has got. I only sore it as a clay sculpt at Jim's place but seeing it now in all its glory is incredible.

My biggest feeling is just knowing that this is one of the coolest & rarest SW replicas there will ever be, I am so so so lucky to have found Jim when I did.

Another thing that really impresses me is the movement, although it is subtle it really makes you feel like you have something unique in your hands. The Luke also looks so so much better in the flesh, a lot of the progress pics in this thread are quite low res so its hard to appreciate it till its in front of you.

To all of you who have still yet to have yours made, it really is much more than I could ever of hoped for, & i also think that combining the look of the live action Luke was def the right decision. I'm going to spend some time this week working on snow placement & getting a case ordered.

I really cant thank Jim enough for taking the time to make this as good as it could be, going the extra 100 miles with the sculpt & just the general enthusiasm he has shown through out this project. I am ecstatic mate, over the moon, totally blown away.

I'll post some snow pics pretty soon but for now thanks for everyones support though this.

Lee, get the kettle on?

I'd like to say this saturday but that will depend on the weather & Michelle. I'll let you know. already started work on some slight mods to the taun just to give it that little push over the edge. I've greened up the lenses, made & added a couple of belt pouches & started the snow......Deluxe Materials all the way, drift snow works the best.

I love my new toy :love

Guy - I've got goosebumps knowing mine is being worked on. The pics just blow me away every time I look at them, from your early concept to now. It is also great to know you may have the display "snow" figured out by then... will probably do the same thing with my PD once I get around to it... :thumbsup

Its ace Kevin, it really is. I'm sat looking at it now & it still blows me away. I may of held things up a bit as my Taun got re furred as Jim wasn't happy with it. First attempt blues.
So sorry if I delayed things a bit but I promise it is worth the wait. I'm not sure if you can get Deluxe Materials drift snow in the USA but give it a try. I think its the best I've tried for the Taun. I'll be posting tons of snowed up pics once I get it done.

Keep up the amazing worth on your DS2 port mate, it is mind blowing stuff.

Guy,

I had a little friend (or two) waiting at my desk when I got in to work today... Like you said - totally blown away! This is insane. Hard not to stare at it like it's alive. Jim really outdid himself. I'm very proud to own this masterpiece.

Packing for a trip, but got a few quick pics with a Hoth print. This is just amazing. Will work on a nice snowy base for it this spring...

Thanks to everyone involved. Will post some more once I get back and get it set up "right"... :cool

Nice one Kevin, glad it got to you & you like it. I really need to spend some time on mine to get the snow right but my A wing has been eating my free time up. Jim will kill me if I dont get it done soon. I want to set a hole day aside just so I can focus & get it all snowed up.

Jim mate, I'll get there soon enough, I want to get it right first time.

At last, I've had a break from the A wing today & spent all day on my tauntaun. I've weathered it slightly added the snow to the Luke & Taun & changed some of the detail here & there to more resemble the prop.

Camera is charging, picks to come

Very very very very easy.

1. Deluxe materials scatter snow
2. Dip you finger in the jar
3. Apply snow from finger to Taun or Luke
4. Repeat & blow

I didn't even bother using the scatter glue that comes with the set. Your supposed to wait 30 min for the glue to get tacky but the snow doesn't really stick to it that well, it sticks well enough for a static pose without the glue. If there is a clumped area there may be some glue used.

I used black pastel on the feet & hands with a stiff but soft brush.
Black/brown mix of pastel on the saddle
Red tamiya acrylic on the feet bit (cant remember what they're called)

For the grey pot thats next to his left leg I bought 2 vintage Action Man water bottles cut them in half & removed the cap end then glued together the lower part from each. I also used some cream colored material from an old set of curtains to make the strap for it.

The snow will come off if you handle it but its better than any other product I've found, it may be possible to hold it in place with hair spray but I've not tried that yet.
I've still got a bit to do on the non hero side, only a small bit of snow and weathering the blaster.

I have tones of the snow left over so if you cant get it in the USA let me know mate?
