Re: Luke on Tauntaun Stop motion replica. Luke riding!

Those pics of Luke are stunning Guy !
He really did a great job and you said that's just a rough mockup... ! Wow :love

Thanks Julien, Jim really is one talented & very patient bloke. As it stands at the moment the Armature's are being measured for reproduction & the the taun fur will start going on as soon as the armature is back in hand.

The Luke has been more trouble than originally thought though, the latex cast was not going to stand the tests of time & the silicone paint isn't doing the trick. Jim then tried a similar technique to what Rich has been doing with the Slave 1, by brushing in latex to for a skin over the silicone. This again was not good enough as the latex skin wasn't strong enough. Jim has decided to combine all the best parts of each process & make the ultimate Luke stop mo puppet. The head, gloves & boots will be resin (for longevity & a superior paint job & look) the body will be a silicone cast & the clothes will now be cloth not latex.
I never for one minute thought that it would need this much development but Jim is a Legend & you don't become a Legend by cutting corners. The end result is about 2-3 weeks away now, which for me will feel like a lifetime but to see it all saddled up & ready for action will be incredible. This all started for me last October & I think you'll agree it has been an amazing thing to see come together. I never doubted that it would happen but I just didn't know how at the time. Here are plenty of pics of the Luke mock up that I was sent whilst on vacation last week.

Was it Jim who made the Armatures, or where they made by someone else?

Re: Luke on Tauntaun Stop motion replica. Luke riding!

Thanks to all that have been in touch with me about this project.

As it stands now when the first is complete in about 4-5 weeks time orders will be taken by Jim. He has very kindly honored a lower price to RPF members from the direct price form his site. There is a cap of 15 places for this run & its looking like between 2-4 places are left. As all the factor's & material are now in place a final price of $2500 has been decided by Jim. If you want one direct from him direct it will be a whopping $3500.

There's still a few months to save up as they will be done in runs of 5 at a time & a 50% deposit will be needed when the order is placed. Obviously this all depends on the final results & whether people like what they see.

If you may be interested then please drop me a pm so I can add you to the interest list, & as I said only 2-4 places left once I have heard back from all list members.

Some very very cool updates coming V soon & a massive thanks to all for the constant support through this wicked project.

Re: Luke on Tauntaun Stop motion replica. Luke riding!

Land mark time, this is the first silicone casting of the Taun with the armature inside. The silicone has come out perfect but hasn't flowed into the fingers very well so as always Jim had prempted casting problems with the fingers & had already made a master mold of the hands so they can be done in resin. I haven't spoke to Jim yet so haven't found out how flexible it is but I'm sure its as good as the latex version.

Re: Luke on Tauntaun Stop motion replica. Luke riding!

The first Taun with Fur is nearly complete, I have to say it is looking amazing a the moment only part way through but I'm hoping to have the first complete pics this week. I made the decision not to show in progress shots of the fur going on as it would create more pressure for Jim. I think you will be very impressed when you see it. He's trying to avoid all the seem lines that are on the original prop as these are quite obvious other than on screen. A lot of them don't even meet up, so hopefully it will look much neater than the prop, also combining the look of the full scale prop into it is working really well.

Re: Luke on Tauntaun Stop motion replica. Luke riding!

Ok guys, I have decided to show an in progress shot I just cant hold back any longer, so far the Taun has all the pelts on bar a few small area's. The pelts are false fur, the tests turned out way better than the real fur, they have been rubberized with silicone in just the same way as the original so they strech with the movement. The pelts are glued with silicone glue so there is no stitching needed. The fur was more grey to start so Jim has whitened it & treated it to make it look more coarse. He is still working on it so this isnt the finished article but he is close. This pic doesn't do it any justice as it was a quick point & press shot just for an update for me the muscle detail doesn't come through as well in this shot & the face detail is a bit washed out but I think you get the idea? All honest opinions are more than welcome but as far as I am concerned I am over the moon so far.

Thanks Fellas, It was a nail bitting thing putting the pic up as I think Jim maybe anxious to know what people think, as I do. I'm really chuffed it meets with all your approval as you cant even begin to imagine how much effort Jim has put into this project so far & its great that the results match the effort.

It does look great though & I' am getting closer & closer to having it in hand as are a few more of you.
Hopefully some better pics with a bit more work done will come through tonight so we can get a better look at it?
