I've made a little diagram off what I think it looks like.

I still think it's some sort off flash that attaches to a camera like in this pic.

Come to think off it, it might even be the internals off a camera like this.

See how the camera slides open to reveal the flash, with a button in the middle?

Food for thought.

That pic of the transition box with the measurements you posted shows my personal buildup. It was based on a real kalimar housing, clad with styrene.

Perhaps we are looking in the wrong place. I keep looking for photography equipment. What if we are not looking at three holes with 2 pins in each hole? Perhaps they are just three little holes and this might be some sort off a 3-pin socket or a power plug adaptor? You know, the one that converts a 3-pin plug to 2-pins.

Has anyone made any headway on this little bugger?
It's far too small to be a flash on it's own. I agree with almar that it slides together.

There appears to be a hose connection on the rear. I've been looking at pneumatic switches/relays/counters but have had no luck with components this small. Couple that with the red object and stick/toggle on the front side, and we're back to WTF is that thing? :lol

Still no idea. But it looks like two pairs of positive/negative terminals on the front (red/black).

I'm leaning toward a connector of some sort, with greeblies added.
The spacing of the bumps on the red/black object scream micro relay to me in greeblie mode.
Any thoughts on the rear of the box, some interesting shadow action going on there.

I got tired of looking at connectors, flashes, relays etc and decided to make something as a placeholder until the part is hopefully found.
