Well you truly DO get what you pay for... :unsure

The Narsil arrived today. What I got was a really big letter opener! I went back and read the listing and sure enough it does cite how the item is smaller than the original. My error in misreading.

But beyond that there is glue on the leather handle, the runes on the pommel are horrible, the plane of the pommel and the plane of the cross bar are not parallel... ugh...

But at least he delivered!

Thisguy, who is in my own area, hasn't even responded to my emails, let alone deliver product in nearly two weeks.

Sorry you got a bad product. It happens from time to time.
If the guy delivers your sword and it is the one in the ebay auction it will be a cool sword. It has more detail than your normal knock-off sword.

There must be a local vendor you can get swords from. Somewhere you can look and handle before you buy!:unsure

Yeah it's been sort of a struggle. I wnet ahead and filed an eBay dispute with the guy who hasn't delived. It's been 13-14 days which isn't an eternity. But since he is local, and since he has not returned any of my emails (using "Reply" to his own email, and no mailerdeamons or other returned mail), I went ahead and filed it.

We have a cutlery shop nearby. A couple actually. The main one I'm thinking of I belive carries the actual UC stuff, not the knock-offs. Either way it's worth checking out.

Huh, I always figured that venti guy was the way to go for knock offs - he seems to offer the best quality next to the licensed stuff - I may rethink that now...

The question now is - who is bold enough to cut a UC Narsil???

Yeah - I'm perplexed...

I've emailed him a couple of times over the past few days, and yesterday sent a message to him directly through eBay. His silence/lack of response is profound enough to suggest to me that something is amiss.

Nonetheless, as a seller, he has responsibility. From my perspective, I've had nothing from him in over two weeks. So even if he for some reason did not get my email messages, he STILL has a responsibility to communicate with me (and to instigate the communication) which he has not. If he went on vacation or something, it is still his responsibilty to be cognizant of his pending eBay transactions, and act accordingly.

I see no valid excuse for ZERO communication since I've sent my payment.

I've bought 3 from him and all have been good Chinese replicas.

Check this place out: http://cultofathena.com/ I've used it a number of times. They have lots of stuff other than just swords (axes, maces, spears, crossbows...), and lots and lots of swords. As long as I've used them shipping is prompt, and prices are pretty good. You can combine shipping too. Knock-off stuff seems decent (and full sized), but the scabbards are nothing to write home about... If you follow the swords link, you can go to the movie / replica swords page, and scroll down to the LOTR page here: http://cultofathena.com/lotr.htm. I like they way they separated the licenced from the knock-offs.

Looks like the "Kings Two Handed Sword" is what you're looking for.

Here's a shot of the difference between the UC Hadhafang and a knock-off. Engraved vs painted plus the shape of the blade isn't curved enough and the hook at the base of the blade is straight on the knock-off, the hilt coloring is off, and the leaf work on the hilt is inlaid brass vs painted again.

Finally heard from him. his claim is that he's been on vacation. further, he claims he did not receive my payment until after he returned. He states he left on 2/26/08. I mailed the payment on 2/21/08.

At any rate he says he's already shipped the item, and will be emailing me the UPS tracking number.

The sword from Venti looks fantastic! He gave a semi-reasonable explanation for the lack of communication/response, and kept a fairly even keel in response to my terse approach. Once he and I connected, he had the sword out to me in ONE day! Impressive.

The sword looks FANTASTIC. It is clearly stamped as "404 Stainless from China", and the quality, from what I can tell is excellent. I chose his auction due to the impressive images plus other subtlties that lead me to think his was a good product, and it panned out. I may have to get another to cut as the shards.

This one however I'm afraid is a $60 waste of space. Not only does the quality suck, but it is 3/4 scale. WHAT THE HELL AM I GONNA DO WITH A MIGDET SWORD!?

I couldn't sell it to any of you guys in good conscious. I can't cut it as the shards because I really want a quality result with the shards concept, and at 3/4 scale and crap... Ain't gonna bother.

So what to do...

That's what I did with my Pakistani Strider POS.

Sharpened it up real nice and went to town in my backyard. Quite a bit of fun and I worked up a good sweat hacking stuff.

Just be careful. I knicked my shin pretty good being stupid and careless.

With my luck I would swing it at some shrubs and the blade would snap and pierce my forehead. Damn, that would leave a mark!:lol
