There seem to be a number of options for the LOTR Elven brooch.

What are the best versions?

Do the replicas vary in size as well as quality?

Thanks

Al

I went the Noble Collection route and it definitely works for display purposes. :)

Dang - just looked up the noble version and they don't ship to the UK.:unsure

What other options are there? The cheapo licensed versions look rubbish...

good wo know that sting fits in the ikea display... it is an ikea display, right?!?

When I said cheap version, I meant this:

These can be found for around $5 - I assume that they are plastic and perhaps incorrectly sized and detailed? Made by Rubies, I think. Anyone seen one of these in person?

There are also various replicas I've spotted on ebay.

The noble collection one looks fantastic, I think I'll end up with one of those.

no....

the cheap version is cheap and looks crappy...

There is one brooch made from sterling silver for $130

http://www.elbenwald.de/products/Fantasy/Herr-der-Ringe/Schmuck/Armreifen-Broschen-Uhren/Blattbrosche-der-Elben.html

and there is one from enamel, silverplated for $50-60 from noble. Ive got this version.

And of course there is the expensive noble brooch made from sterling silver and plated with enamel for $120-130.

These are german links, but Im sure the same stuff is available in your country...

Just to give you a heads up - the Noble version is very nice and well made (though the pin could be a bit longer) but isn't entirely accurate. It's a little on the small side and the green is off from the screen-used piece. It still may be the best way to go - it is very well made. I don't know if any of the discrepancies are addressed in the more expensive versions linked above.

Any one know what type of enamel is used ? to my eye it looks like cold enamel as apposed to vitreous.

Thanks for the advice my friend - and I never tire of seeing your beautiful display!
That IS a fantastic display mate. Congratulations and cheers for sharing :)
Thank you for the kind praise.

Yes, it's the Detlof display case that is sold by Ikea.

Which Sting is that?

I've been meaning to pick one up, but I can't decide which one to get... I've even asked the designer, who's a friend of mine, his thoughts on it, but I'm still unsure.

I love that display! :love

That looks to be for sure the United Cutlery Museum Collection version of Sting, CTF.

The dings on the hilt are too obvious not to have been put there purposefully, too uniform to not be from a large run of similarly distressed swords...

If you want to be able to control the weathering yourself, go with the standard version, but if you want one made from higher-quality materials (even if the weathering is a bit uncontrollable), then the Museum Collection version is the way to go.

Thanks!

Jamanticus is correct, it's a United Cutlery Museum Collection Sting.

Thanks for the information!

Which one has the details reversed?
What details are suppose to have been reversed?

Are you referring to the lettering on the blades? The regular version Sting has the letters cut into the blade whereas the MC version had the area around the letters ground out so that the letters appear raised.
