Lost season 6 with spoilers beware

I like how it was artful in it's sidestepping things I don't really want to know (like the MIB's name. Did I want to know more about Boba Fett? Hell no. Now Boba Fett is lame). Man, now we know who the skeletons are, and it's so poignant. To see Smokey's "birth" was one of those woo-hoo moments for me!

I may have missed the first few seconds - when I tuned in, the real mom was floating in the water. Did they give the year? (Given the Latin, I would generally guess from 1-200 BC to 3-400 AD...)

Unless locke had a second GF, i don't think so. His girlfriend is Katey Sagal. The 'mom' was Allison Janney.

I pretty much agree. It's just that it was/is believed his name was being withheld because it had significance.

It could pretty much be a way of saying it was irrelevant too. They also pretty much said the same thing about all the 'history' of the island. The underground tunnels, hippo statue, etc. All cool, but irrelevant.

Seemed like they just sidestepped any real answers by passing the mystery onto Jacob and MIB's 'not' mom. I wasn't very satisfied.
Hopefully, there are some real answers coming up.

Okay, now that I've stopped trying to figure out how the not mom was connected to Locke - (that would have been cool to have it go full circle, though, you have to admit), I've had time to think about the rest of it.

I found the characters interactions and story pretty compelling, it didn't feel contrived, but kept me interested in the characters. I was really glad to see MIB wasn't necessarily 'evil', he was just curious, frustrated and betrayed. And Jacob is only 'good' in that he's naive and obedient. They both are murderers and that really stayed true to what we've seen them do on the island over the rest of the series.

The MIB getting swallowed by the 'light/water' cave seems to me to have connected his soul to that 'source' which is why he can't leave the island. The mom told Jacob he has to protect that source and now his brother is a personification of that source.

I have to agree with lonepigeon about not liking that the rest of the mysteries have been killed off with 'not mom'. :( But I guess we're going to have to be okay with the cycle of candidates carrying on and what we've seen is just Jacob picking his replacement.

They better explain how he got off the island to touch people and bring them to the island...

I don't remember seeing it on-screen anywhere, but the Lost wiki places it at 23AD, with MiB's "death" at 66AD. Seems awfully specific unless it was mentioned somewhere that I missed.

Typical Lost, really.. answer some questions while introducing new ones. We still don't know exactly what Smokey is. Although the Light in the cave seemed to disappear when he was "born", it's obviously still around, and MiB's wheel was eventually installed and works as intended.

It does beg the question of what happens when the Light is "used" like that. How much is there? Is it finite? And what happened back in S2 when Desmond discharged the pocket at the Swan site? What was the button really doing? We have an inkling of what that pocket was, now.

But they've got only two episodes to tell it in! Even with the extended finale, if you factor in commercials, you're looking at around two and a half hours of screen time left.

Anyone else notice that MIB and Jacob's 'not mom' was Locke's girlfriend?

No, different actress. Lockes girlfriend is Katie Segal, and Mom was voice of Kaiser Permenente.

NOt much to go on with this episode. What does drinking the wine do?

That seems like a lot of speculation and personal interpretation to me. None of it was really explained in the episode. MIB was trying to leave the island since he was 13. How did these ancient people come up with this idea that electromagnetism could get them off the island?
Why did this light turn MIB into a smoke monster? It didn't do that to Desmond (assuming this is the same power from within the island).

What is the source of Jacob's power? It came from this crazy lady - where did she get it? No answers.

Hugely disappointing episode. A waste of an hour just to tell us who's skeletons were in the cave. Nothing else was really explained and it looks like now they're just going to completely ignore the question of WHY they're protecting the light and what it is. If there isn't a big change in the way they're telling this story by the end of next week's episode I doubt there's any chance of a good wrapping up of all the unanswered questions. Way to go Lost, killing my end of semester buzz.

Very intriguing date. With the speaking of Latin and the assumed date of 23 AD the island would likely be in the Mediterranean Sea (or not very far into the Atlantic) at the time of the mother's shipwreck.
The mother would seem to be a Roman - or at least from the Roman Empire.
Bizzarro thought, here, but some theological calculations put the birth of ****** around 10 BC and his death anywhere between 22 and 25 AD. Do you think the writers are leaving open a possible Mary Magdelene connection - she possibly fleeing a Roman occupied Jerusalem after the execution (say, on a cross) of the father of her unborn?

My first reaction is that I'm disappointed with this latest episode. I worry that we'll never know what the island is, what the bright light is, etc. They've gotta wrap up the story lines of all of the characters in the reamining 3.5 hours.

We see how Jacob and MIB come to be what we know them as, but there's no explanation of WTF is going on with the island. And that's gonna be extremely frustrating after 6 years.
