Hey everybody,

I made a TVA cover by using vinyl and a Cricut machine. Then used gold leaf for the negative space. It feels like it is debossed which is cool. I might try and take the shiny out of the vinyl with fine sandpaper. I might do another because the lines are kind of thin around the orange part of the top of the V and the bottom of the A. I always cover my sketchbooks with something and was excited to try this. I want to try and laser engrave some of the other images from the book, like the Loom, love the artwork and production design!

Also, can't find good imagines of the sketches in the book. Anyone know where to find them?

My original plan, I 3D printed the logo and text in resin and was going to use gold ink/gold acrylic paint to stamp the design into the leather/vinyl cover, but after several attempts it just didn't give the fine detail to the print even with a thin layer of paint rolled on.
I think to truly do this justice it will have to be a handmade and bound book with the foil stamped cover.

Round off the corners and take the shine off the vinyl with some 2000 grade sandpaper and you'd have yourself a nice replica.

There are some better closeups of the temporal loom page in the end credit sequences of episodes 2 and 3.

Some better shots of Victor Timely's handbook in episode 4. It seems that the strap is a dark brown leather strap sewn/glued to the back cover with a hole on the other end; there's a peg on the front cover and the strap is affixed through the hole:


Also the cover has a much darker color compared to the ones used in the present. This is normal for a 25+ years of constant use compared to the different time flow in the TVA.

I made the hard cover similar to my other builds, more exactly with 1,5-2 mm thick cardboard glued on plain paper to form the overall shape, then the final design was printed on matte adhesive vinyl and applied to the cover (some of these steps are shown in the photos). Again, the (fake) pages look was achieved with a 3-4 layers of PVC sheets of different thickness glued together, then cut to shape. The 1st page was printed on plain paper - I already added this to post #31 for you to use; maybe in the future I will add more pages when/if they will reveal some of the book's content.

I also cut all the letters from glossy metallic gold vinyl and with lots of patience (some of the writings are slightly above 2mm in height) I managed to add it to my book:

You can see in the photos how the gold color shifts when it is hit by direct and indirect light.

They are keeping the pages fairly obscured apart from the Timely episode.

I'm still looking into foil stamping for the cover and spine, if it becomes a viable option I may do a run of the leather covers for people to make their own handbooks.

The gold vinyl color acts so weird when is not hit by direct light; I see you also have that green hue, maybe this is in conjunction with the orange background. Everything changes when the gold vinyl is hit by light:

The only difference is the slightly darker background color on the 1st version. The name Casey C. Casey (hard to read from the screencaps) was inspired by Mobius M. Mobius' name.

Howdy all - it’s been a while since I posted on here. I’ve been looking at this thread recently as I plan on attending SDCC this year and hopefully will cosplay as Ouroboros.

In any case, I wanted to try my hand at making a TVA Handbook. I first started with this video tutorial, which was actually quite useful, as he posted his 3D printer STL stamp file and a few of the page inserts too for printing:

Next I watched a couple of tutorials on foil stamping and came to the conclusion that without a hot foil press machine, the options are slightly limited for achieving decent results. I tried initially to use embossing glue, heat activated sticky embossing powder, but the results were less than optimal. Then I came across a video that described using iCraft Deco Foil sheets on top of laser printer toner and those results looked really good!

But how to get laser printer toner onto a preprinted / pre bound journal? I ended up buying Minc toner ink. I figured, I can put the ink onto the 3D printed stamp, then use that to get a head start on the cover of the journal. If the coverage wasn’t great with just the stamp (it wasn’t), then I could paint the areas that needed more toner. The first image is the cover after stamping and trying to paint. The second image is after the first go at ironing the foil sheet into the cover of the book (iron heat set to silk), using a plain sheet of paper over the foil as protection. The third pic is after cleaning up the excess foil with a q-tip dipped in acetone (nail polish remover). There were still some black spots that shone through so I tried to foil again on top to see if it would help or not (not really - it ended up having some weird rainbow areas and killed the reflective metallic sheen). I guess this method is really more of a “one and done” approach. This was my tester book and overall it’s not that bad in hand. Not quite sure if the gold foil needs to be sealed in somehow? I’ll try a few more options and report back later…

Anyone know how to laser print toner onto a journal book??

Here's my 2nd attempt at a better variant of the TVA Official Handbook:


This was done by first adding a layer of gold metallic self-adhesive vinyl on the hard cover, then a layer of orange printed white self-adhesive vinyl which had all the letters/numbers and logos cut out. On the 4th image you can see the cutout text before peeling (left) and after peeling (right) reveling the gold vinyl under it. Although the depth perception is not as prominent as in the debossed finish of the originals, it is way better than the 1st variant I did with the gold writing added to the printed vinyl.

And I did a 3rd variant, which is not the best, but this doesn't involve cutting and peeling of the writings:


This method was done by printing the orange color on a UV printer directly on the golden vinyl; because I didn't print a white underlayer, but also the orange was printed in 2 layers, the color came out too dark.

I ended up ordering dies and I hot foil stamped some faux leather books. They don’t have the spines done because too tricky/cost and after several failures/different foils and loads of testing I got a pretty good result! Theres always some overfoiling but that comes off with a soft brush- this one isn’t perfect, the main logo needed a little more pressure but it’s pretty decent

The hot foil stamping looks really good. Nicely done.
I would tweak the positioning and size of the text a bit though.
