Loki Masks

cool topic,
A long time ago, when I was working with Chris L. , we had a unique opportunity to meet with a gentleman here in Florida that collected obscure props. I'd say this was back around
1994. Anyway, He owned a screen used Loki mask and wanted it repaired on the back. fortunately, even though it was in our possession a few weeks , we never did anything to it so it still keeps it's value today. A few of the details I recall to this day was the finish, so here goes, take it with a grain of salt or leave it, up to you. First the green you all are using on the replicas doesn't appear rich enough, same with the patinas. the yellow reminded me of subdued ochra but more yellow-green, and there's wasn't a lot of brown on it, it was more of a wash. Looking back on it, you would want to use oils to paint one of these for the brilliance of the hue. The last thing I remember, even to this day, was that it had a satin clear all over it. This was my deciding factor not to touch it as I didn't want to deal with the clear verses paint situation, I was naive, what can I say. We gave back the prop and I convinced the owner to leave it as is for keeping it's value. Anyway, that's what I recall about this prop

Cheers,
Will

Thats cool that you had a screen used Mask to hand for a while!
Thanks for the painting advice, i'd love to see or own a screen used Loki Mask!

I would say that this is the prop that got me into prop replicas! I remember wanting one so badly as a kid. You could say it was first scratch build- Crayon, paper, and string.

I should finally get one of these.

I was thinking of getting one of the cheap chinese recasts and making a mold of it. I would like to cast one in fiberglass.

I wouldnt get a new chinese one, just wait for an accurate one, trust me you will appreciate it more!

I think frosty had one for sale, i dont know if he still has but it's worth asking!

No definetly not, the ICONS mask is the orignal mask and is the most accurate cast you will find. The new chinese mask is completely different, its a different shape, size and the grain is not even close. It's basically a fan made sculpt.

Trust me ive had 4 different Loki Masks haha.

Aghhh. I was counting on that! Haha, well I will wait. I read this whole thread but I must have missed a few things.

Actually, what generalfrosty says sounds accurate. There are a few different versions on ebay. There is the hauntedstudios piece of junk, then there is a clean(apparently) cast one on there as well.

Dont be fooled, that Loki Mask i have seen before, it is definetly not screen used. The paint jobs on the screen used masks are more details and have more depth. This is an ICONS mask, i even messaged the seller and he says i am wrong. But i know i am not, and why would he sell a SCREEN USED mask for $400 if the other screen used ones were sold for well over $2000?

Just to clarify things a bit about the "no live auction rule". Posting live auctions is only permitted when it´s done to point out potentially fraudulent auctions. In this here case the OP did nothing wrong, although only unknowingly :lol

Some unlucky guy just forked out well over $400 for a replica Mask thinking it was the real deal from the movie.

Then again, he wants to count himself lucky at the fact he payed way less for an ICONS mask than most people did back in the day and will actually recieve his! So in a way, congrats!

So i bourght a new Loki Mask and it arrived yesterday!
I have to say this is the best Loki Mask i have seen to date! I got it from reelart on eBay where i purchased my original mask a good 5 years ago.

Now this one i can only assume is a 1st or 2nd generation cast and it was cast from the original screen used mask. He is also selling a screen used one but $3000 is a bit out of my budget.

But i can tell the difference between this mask and my other, it is alot heavier than the others, and every single detail is there! The 'L' symbol is there, and there are also the wood grain markings on the bottom of the chin and on the edges of the back of the mask. Unlike my previous masks.

Pictures to follow!

Sorry to bump this thread, but I love the Mask! It's a movie I grew up with and something I'm really obsessed with lol. I bought my Loki Mask back in 2006 from Reel Art. I repainted it over the summer due to the fact that there were a few spots on the mask and it was really showing, but a few months later, it's starting to thin out now. I think I didn't put enough effort into it. I might repaint it again, but I don't wanna ruin it, so I thought I'd be better off getting a new Loki Mask. I'm doing a fan-film with my Mask too, so I just need to make up my mind on what I should do.

The Reel Art Loki mask is the way to go if you want an exact replica. In my opinion this is the best replica to date and currently offered. Its 100% detailed with wood grain detail all over the mask. Its solid and sturdy. The Paint job is extremely detailed!!! I love how they used the lighter green as smudged or really worn/rubbed out areas, instead of just the brown and darker green travailing up and down the mask.

Here is my copy, I love it and believe itw worth more than their asking price. They currently have it for sale on Amazon for about $70.
