Liquid Chrome Aerosol

Did you think of using chrome mylar? Just cut it into panels and iron it on. You can get it at any hobbyshop.

How flexible is the mylar? The objects are round bezels... do you think it would work?

I think it would need to be cut very accurately to accommodate curves.....and, like i said, ILM found it a pain in the bum....they'd come in to do more shots the next day and find the mylar had detached from the hull and had to be re-stuck very often.....

If you want the best finish, which your build demands!...i'd have the pieces Vac metalised.....it's a tried and true method, and reasonably durable.....chrome sprays have always been notoriously fickle and tend to gunge up to the touch....even after weeks of curing.....clear coating usually dulls the finish down to a painted silver finish....

How does that testers model paint work on resin, the chrome and gold stuff?! Should I still paint or primer a gloss black as an under coat??

Hi,
Ive had some good results with Krylons Original Chrome.
Theres a trick to how I used it though.
1. Don't use it straight out of the can.
2. Sand and smooth the surface you are applying it to. Clean off all residue.
3. Apply a black undercoat first. This helps the chrome pop brighter.
4. Transfer ( spray ) the chrome paint into another container ...a small amount at a time. Then use your airbrush to apply a light even coat .
5. Let the coat dry fully then apply other coats on top... heavier than the original coat ...lettit dry between coats until you have the finish you want
Hope this helps.

can you show us some examples?

Ok this is how to do the aclad chrome.....first make sure you sand your primer smooth, then spray it with gloss white, after the white dries, use rubbing compound and hand buff until it has a mirrored shine. Then the Aclad is sprayed on, after it is sprayed on take a paper towel and buff it, the heat of the buffing will make it get hard and shiny. If there are spots that look bare then you spray the aclad on those spots and buff again.here is a link on what it will look like.

That´s the first time I read of using a white base coat for Alclad Chrome. Everywhere else (als on Alclad´s website) its says to use gloss black...

And I thought it has to be polished with a micro fiber cloth as a paper towel would be to hard and could scratch the surface?

I just tried to order this one they only ship to the UK. :(

Hey B,

Try SpazStix. Its chrome in a can - a bit pricey but it actually works. The more you apply and buff the more reflective it becomes. It's the best can based chrome I've used to date. :)

Do stores sell this or do I have to order online? Have never seen that brand before.
