Lightsaber Contests of Old (Lots of Pics)

Well, it has been 5 years, yeno...

I think we should hold another one, same as the old one; dollar store only items, photos of receipts to prove it, as well as the individual items prior to assembly...

I'd be up for it, especially since my budget has dropped to dollar store crap anyways... :lol

Interested...:thumbsup

Ya, we need another one...

I don't recall who started the old one... I'd consider it except the only thing I could offer for prizes would be some old cheap BK SW watches left over from an erzatz JY sale... :unsure

How about each entry also offers a prize?
The winner gets the whole lot.

I remember these! i remember being totally blown away by the talent on the board. Some of these things were just downright artwork.

Alot of saber building stopped when MR got the license to make replicas.

Oh, I am so in for another $ store contest. I had a blast with the one I was in years ago, and I've tried to keep an eye out for another one, but your all right, it's been like 5 years, or so.

Personally, I've never got into the licensed MR stuff, so I never really stopped working on custom stuff.

I know aside from the $ store contest, Luuke used to have a yearly (or so) one with different themes. He had one that where you were supposed to base your design on your favorite TV show, or Movie, out side the star wars universe. I really, really, wanted in on that one, because I had a ton of ideas, but I didn't get to, for some reason, I since have forgotten. (probably broke at the time. )

The $ store one I was in, had a full set of Trooper armor as the prize. that was very, very generous, but personally I would be in, even if the prize was a small/ cheep one. Like a gift card for the $ story. :lol (ok, maybe not that cheep. :) )

Heck it wouldn't even necessarily have to be just a saber contest.

I do like the idea of a them though.

Same here. I personally saw the $350 price tag as too high for something that would sit on my desk simply because it was cool. I like lightsabers, but not enough to justify paying that much for them.

So I built my own, and grab the occasional machined fan creation whenever I can.

Although that decision has kept the Dooku saber out of my hands all these years. Guess that is the price I pay for not paying the price everyone else pays.

I hope to change that sometime in the near future. I may have some new reference to do this one justice.

how about we start a new one? $ store (or £ shop if you're in the uk), say $10 (£10) budget? 2 weeks to build? i could personally offer a TDK two face's coin to throw in the prize pot

Sounds great, though I would bump it up to $20. or even $25. as the max. And I would let it run for a month. That way it gives folks a little more room to play, and will hopefully, give even the amateurs a chance and/or the poorest among us, to get in on this . (Plus, I know I'm going to be out of town next week, and a number of the coming weekends, and I don't want to miss out on this. :))

Should we have a limit to how many entries per person, or should we just let folks enter as many as the can afford, and build in the allotted time frame?

Sounds fun I'd be game.

Now when we say dollar store are we talking the "Everything is a $1" store or the general merchandise stores that has good crap cheap like Dollar General for those on the east coast?

$20 at the 1st store and I could do a few sabers. :lol

Well. last time it was $ (or .99$) stores. like "$ tree" "Deals" etc. However, to me a $1., is a $1., is a $1.. So, I personally think, if you have a reseat to prove it was $1. then way it shouldn't matter where it cam from.
