Lightsaber confusion!

Hey guys. I'm new. Had a friend here who said you guys were great, so I'm coming to you guys for help. I'm making a bastardized Sith Lord costume with mixes of Anakin's costume, a thick wool robe, and Starkiller's helmet. I'm not going for an exact replica so much as just something fun to assemble.

I've finally gotten to lightsabers. I've looked at the lot and I intend to, no matter which saber I get, mail it in to Ultrasabers to have it converted to Luxeon Red. I've heard nightmares about how unwieldy some of the lightsabers are. Vader's lightsaber in particular stands out, but what I was wanting was Anakin's or Luke's from A New Hope. However, I heard that that one was near impossible to wield with two hands. I've heard some very glowing reviews about how Obi Wan's lightsaber wields from the last few movies.

Do any of you guys have testimonials? I'd really appreciate them!

Thanks,
Herr Awesome

I have the Anakin, Vader, Maul (both sides, so either as the staff or duel wield) Luke, and Mace sabers. They're all somewhat unwieldy to me because they're so thick. I don't remember the Anakin being THAT bad, but the ribs on the grip do make it insanely thick, and you feel like you're holding a squash. I don't have either version of Obi Wan's, but i have the Luke saber, which is almost identical. It's my favorite to wield out of the lot. However, have you thought about going with a different brand? I don't think Random Sabers has started taking orders again. (And given how long it's been, not sure they will honestly.) Or Parks Sabers? Parks Sabers - The Most Powerful Sabers In The Known Universe They're a bit more pricy, but well worth it. Also, you don't have to settle for one directly from the movies.

ps, Parks has amazing blades as well that completely disconnect when you want to wear the saber, and you can pick any blade color you want. So no need to send it off.

In regards to the Anakin/Luke saber, the only kinda comfortable way I found to hold is if you hold it backwards (with the shroud turned away from you) and rest your index finger on the red button. Even then it's still rather unwieldy. I don't really know of any sword in existence that is held at the very end of the hilt where the saber grips are. Not to mention the episode 3 version has the covertech clip in between the grips, as if that design needed another reason to be hard to hold.

The obi would probably be pretty comfy, but as I recall the stunt version Ewan liked had the control box removed so that says something right there.

I've also read (and I don't know how true it is) that the sabers used by Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor were a smaller diameter than the Original Trilogy sabers because Hayden and Ewan have smallish hands, and the smaller diameters would make them easier to handle.
