Hey all,

So this is eventually going to be a life-sized standing werewolf, with dog legs and head leaned low and forward. I've done the sculpts for the head, feet and ears, Richard Riley is starting on the bodywork shortly, and Rich Krussell (a talented local mask maker) has come on to tackle the hands.

Below are pics of the sculpts for the head and feet and a shot of a test casting with ears and teeth affixed. A good deal of the head and foot will be covered with fur, but the details are there in case they peek through a bit. Naturally, all the fine detail and texture have washed out on the pics but hey, it's a sneak peek anyway :D

The fur for the first one is going to be 100% custom run National Fiber Tech hair. A nice mix of browns on the body and the mane will be a longer and more gray mix of the same colors. For future copies, we'll be able to do fur based on the buyer's wishes. The eyes on the final piece will be yellow eyes with a more "animal" look to them. Those are being custom made as we speak.

Molds for the head and ears are now done and I did a quick snap of a test head casting with ears in place. IMO, ear placement is really crucial for capturing the look and feel. The hair on the head will be mostly 5-7" long, dense hair... so the ears will seem a bit more subtle once he's furred up, but I'm really happy with the ear "pose" and placement and think they really enhance the face's character.

While the first statue was a commission by a client of mine, he's allowing us to offer this to others as a head only and full body character as well. Anyone interested please contact us through our site: http://www.tomspinadesigns.com/contact-us.html

Enjoy the pics and I'll be sure to post up more progress shots as things come together!

Looking forward to seeing the progress on this, and anything that you do Tom. :)

Thanks guys. This is definitely a fun one... I'm a huge werewolf fan and it's nice to be able to add my own touches on a project like this.

But with the subject title, I was hoping for a Marty Feldman Igor. :D

hahaha... good point, I've edited the title. :)

Wow.. Looks great tom.. Can't wait to see this beast furred up and display to its full potential. :thumbsup

Being a HUGE werewolf fan myself, I've always preferred the "up on hind legs" version myself and this one's looking GREAT.. Can't wait to see the final piece.

looks cool.

only, and i mean only thing i would change at this (for the final one anyway) is bigger/longer teeth. im just a fan of the saber tooth werewolf look :lol

hell of a sculpting job though. that thing looks PISSED.

WEREWOLF?.

There wolf.

There castle.

There wolf.

:lol

Sorry, couldn't resist a movie quote from the greatest comedy of all time.

Looking great Tom. Although, like Chris, I'm also partial to larger upper canines on werewolves. You've sculpted a very large werewolf head there--it can definitely handle larger canines. Not too much larger, but bigger for sure.

Can't wait to see this baby completed. How tall's it gonna be?

Grant

Thanks guys.

I may tinker with the teeth but we'll see. For now we're using an unmodified taxidermy jawset so the teeth are somewhat "as-is" but I may rework them or see if there's a way to swap out the canines. We'll see :)

Height should be around 6' 3" or so because the head will be slung low and forward like he's stalking. If he were standing with his head up, I'd say he'd be about 6' 9"?

That height is perfect, Tom. Tall enough to be imposing to nearly everyone, but not so tall that only super tall people can see the details on the face/mouth/head.

He's be gonna be one scary motherfracker. :eek

The Wook

(not nitpicking, i swear)

have you given thought to flattening out the head a bit more? it looks sorta like a pit bull now, and not so much a wolf.

im working off memories of the underworld lycans though ;)

its still a hell of a job, and its going to be seriously cool/scary when its full sized.

any ideas for a display base yet?

chris

Hey Chris,

Well, it's already molded and cast (that's a casting in the bottom pic) so it's a bit late for shape tweaks... that said, he's gonna have a mane of thick, 7" long fur so the shape of the top of his head's not really gonna matter. I kinda liked the non-flat look though... just for the fun of it.

Besides, pit bulls are scary. Maybe that's a subconsious bonus :)

Haven't thought much about a base yet... for now we're just working on the life-sized one and will think some more on the heads after that.

Is he going to have a fifth toe? Like a dewclaw? Are the front paws even pictured here?

I always liked the idea of a werewolf having dewclaws ala AAWIL because of the human being having five fingers/toes.

Looks great.
Gene Simmons called. He wants his tongue back. :D

Yeah, always dug that on the AWIL wolf too. This one, however, won't have em cus he's an upright wolf with more human arms/hands. The foot sculpt shown is just for the legs, the hands will be much more human looking with bear claws for fingernails and a hint of "paw pads" on the palms.

Tom

Nope... not a replica of any specific film wolf... we're going for an original design but naturally, we'll draw inspiration from all the film wolves that came before but it's not intended to be a replica.

The Dog Soldiers wolves had a different head and a very "naked" body... this guy will be furry as anything and not as lean and tall as the DS wolves were... ours will also have the head position very low and forward with a bit of a "hunch" for a strong shoulder look.

Tom

Looks great Tom. I can't wait to see it finished. I was just thinkg about a life-sized werewolf the other day. How strange indeed. :D
