How does she look?

Lighter weight, easier manufacturing, lower cost.

Were the originals metal?

Do the similarly appearing REAL weapons of today have metal shrouds?

The originals were hand pounded aluminum. Thus every one was a little different. Metal shrouds were the make or break it feature with us over at the AL. A lot of us have or are making Hero all metal PR's and the shrouds were the missing link.

The originals were hand formed aluminum, made by pounding sheet aluminum over a wooden buck. The plastic/resin/fiberglass/etc. shells are the weak point in replica pulse rifles that use real gun components. If I had an aluminum shroud on mine, I could actually risk shooting it. As it is, just with normal (and careful) handling the shrouds have already been damaged (minor).

Remember, back in the day when the originals were made, BAPTY probably did not have access to a polymer plant...if there were any around at that time. Certainly, nowadays, many structural components of real firearms are made of synthetics which were originally derived from the Nylon 6.6 (aka Nylon 66) formulation.

For me, I can't see spending that much money just to remove the aluminum shrouds in the hopes that they MAY fit on my pulse rifle, and then discarding / selling the rest of the HCG rifle. I will have to wait and see if anyone does the swap and see how it turns out.

Some of the original heroes had hand-pounded aluminum (and it's appropriately wonky). Other heroes (only those made for Alien3, I think but am not sure) had vacuum-formed shrouds over the original aluminum ones from Aliens.

The metal shrouded ones are *****in'. There are 3 of these out there and they feel and look much more like "real" firearms. I'd say the aluminum makes all the difference.

Heres a youtube clip of one of the real ones :)

I was just thinking of it from a display perspective. I didn't know people were itchin' to go out and shoot these things.

Ok, the exclusive Green Edition is sold out. Who did it? I want names. And more importantly, I want reassurance that purchasing the brown one is still a good deal!
:angry
