Licenced Iron Man Arc Reactor for 150.00!!!

I was fortunate enough to snag one of Rick Prop's Reactor in kit form and had the fun of building and wiring it up. Makes a great display piece and pretty darn accurate, I think.

Pros -
Cheap (comparatively to most prop replicas that are licensed and not rubies)
Lights up
Prototype looks interesting
Has the case with it
Removable.

Cons -
Lying about accuracy
Pics show busted solder and some strange wires
Seriously, wires?
No final product image.

I think I will wait until these actually hit the market before I grab one. I like the design, it's a pretty cool looking piece, and 99% of the planet wouldn't go "GAH INACCURATE CRAP!!!" when looking at it. I, however, am not in that 99%. It bugs me that they show a pic with busted solder on it, and MR doesn't really have the greatest track record when it comes to really nice looking items.

If it comes out in November and looks cool (or at least as good as the pics) I will probably get myself a late birthday present.

New pics from Ebay...

So besides the arc being competley inaacurate, the base and "case" are crap as well. Angled base and curved plexi??? WTF!!!

That is really really nice. I have a friend that would love that. It's a little out of the price range for a Christmas present for him but he sure would love it. I may have to just suck it up and get him one.

You know, you guys always ***** that the prop companies exaggerate their claims on accuracy.

Don't you think you are doing the same on your "review".

Is it "completely inaccurate"? No.

Is it "crap"? No.

Lighten up.

These things will NEVER be up to snuff for some people. But they are fine for 99% of people.

My suggestion is that you quit even looking to some company to do replicas.

Make them yourselves, it's the only way you'll be happy.

Were damn lucky these companies even try to make them.

Well said. The replica is 1000% more accurate than the empty space in my Iron Man collection!

I understand what you are saying Mic, but it is our god given right as prop collecting nerds to **** on other peoples work. So get off our backs about our rants and save your speaches for those who care. :)

You know, if I didn't have the "ricksprops" piece, I would snap it up. I mean, $150 isn't terrible and while it's not totally "screen acurate", it's really not a bad piece at all.

-B89! :D

I say again, if you take the 150.00 reactor and a fan made 700.00 reactor, set them beside each other then grab a randon person off the street who has seen the movie and ask them to chose the screen accurate one, this is their response: :confused

You mean there is a difference?! I did'nt get my magnifying glass out and go over both models inch by inch, but I would say they look very close. Also, hmm $150, for an outstanding version that is a close to screen acurate as you can get or the $700 version...I would have to seriousley give some thought to wear I want to spend my money:lol

Well stated Funky(y)thumbsup

I have to go with Mic on this. For $150, this damn thing looks amazing. It's funny that some of the same holdouts here would buy an MR product. If I had an Iron Man collection, this would be in it. Yeah, Rick made an amazing replica, but this has a much better price point for a movie I am not as attached to as Star Wars.

I think it is impossible to beat for the amount. I thought Iron Man was the best of the super hero movies so far and this prop is definitely one of the best iconic pieces out there. I would be all over this one of I was just not so tight on the bucks right now and focusing on Pixar items right now. But down the road, this is first on the list to get.

I think that it is very funny that people will pick apart a lightsaber, robot from a 1950's movie or rocketeer costume BUT when it comes to a newer movie they have extremely low standards for accuracy.

Kinda off topic, but I Met John Lasseter aka mR Pixar today. He is a great guy. I had him sign my d23 program.

Now on topic, Well you have to look at the times..Money is tight, and a cheap non accurate item will just have to do for now. Also, it is easier to get license for recent super hero films today because it is all about marketing their item..It may be cheaply made coughsideshowironmanhelmetscough, but studios could really careless.

On a side note, i was chatting with a company today, and they are in the works of making the rocketeer and jetpack. I highly doubt it will be 100% accurate and cheaply made, but i am sure it will be a lot cheaper than making the kit.

No. And what is "speach"? I don't think I have any.

See what I said above here, Brad? People care about what they care about. I LOVED Iron Man. It was a great movie. For me, and others, I simply lack the passion for it that I have for all things Star Wars.

This is just like those Museum Replica pieces. The accuracy sucks, but people who just don't care as much as I do will find those things cool and accurate. They will see those Master Replica sabers as the bee's knees and be happy. I will be happy like that with this Iron Man replica...were I to collect Iron Man replicas.

Exciting! Just to clarify: Making the rocketeer jetpact, or making the rocketeer and jetpack?

Always wanted a proper jetpack, ever since the film came out. I'd draw the rocket on a piece of canvas, strap it to my back, and 'fly' around the house. :D

Can't wait to see what "the company" does. And if it's not 100% accurate, we can mod it!
