Let's talk Mandalorian Era New Republic Flight Jackets

That jacket was totally cool! I think in the X-Wing novels they mention having similar jackets. I think Corran got mugged and they took his at one point.

The winged collar you are referring to is called a rolled collar in the apparel world. It has plenty of appearance in the SWU so it is not out of place. But I am with you in that I like a banded or Mandarin collar and would have preferred to see that. I also prefer in real life as well. I have been a sucker for them because most of the original MacGyver shirts had such collars.
Yeah. I really struggle to find good real world jackets that fit in universe. The only ones that really look halfway decent are the WenVen ones on Amazon, but they still need a lot of modification.

I have been keeping these on my watchlist for years now. Never pulled the trigger.

These have a lot of the elements of the cloth jacket used for Luke’s ceremonial jacket. And in turn, had a lot of detail similarities to the cold weather Flight jacket seen in The Empire Strikes Back.

My thinking is to modified similar to the ceremonial jacket. Using trim or other elements to cover pockets. Remove or cover zipper and other fasteners. Get some custom made painted leather patches on the front and sleeves. Along with rank and SWU style ID chest badge. I’d also get a large patch or direct paint application of some SWU influenced nose art type image.

I made this name badge last year to fit in the chest pocket of my Galaxy’s Edge Rebel Flight Jacket they used to sell when it was first opened. It is once again my attempt to marry my Naval Aviation background with the SWU.

I recent added velcro to it and sport it on my bag I carry around Disney.

My fantasy is a waxed cotton version of these designs.

If you were willing to spend the money, you probably could get one custom made from Magnoli Clothiers. The Yavin jacket has most the elements and he also works with waxed cotton. Plus you probably could get whatever else you wanted incorporated into the design.

I want to give the infamous 'Delta jacket' pattern a go!

The second one there really makes me think of Old BSG. Of course, there's a lot of stylistic similarities between the two universes, to the point where I use oBSG Vipers in my Star Wars storytelling as a sister ship to the X-Wing.

And of course now I really want one of those jackets just for everyday wear...

Look what we have here.
A G-1.

So let's discuss this.

First let me say this is just me talking out my ass just for the sake of sparking discussion.

I'm not sure if they are trying to establish another style... possibly for a Y-Wing pilot or it could be still just the way various items and various old factions came together during the Rebellion and still at this time in the New Republic, they are still just making do with what they have. Even when they do move on to updated or replacement gear, things like flight jackets may fall in line under tradition and no uniformity may be required as long as it meets certain standards.

So you have to wonder how much they cared that we noticed a different jacket. This appears to be an unmodified (as already stated) G-1 style jacket with a rank insignia added. The zipper is still there but they may have removed. They usually look like this... Zipper Pull - Orchard made G-1 but some productions have a standard pull. It still might be there just cannot tell for sure. I also believe they intentionally left the pocket unbuttoned to hide the button. That could have made some little patch or decal to hide the hole, but they did not.

Very inclined to agree with your point about not establishing another style, just using the story elements to give us a look at the "day to day" behind the scenes, similar to the episode focusing on the Imperial reconditioning. But this time with the pilots and sort of a blending of the rag-tag gear coming together under the New Republic banner. Maybe it really is an opportunity for them to give us a look at the predecessor for Poe's flight jacket though, which would feed into the continued theme of The Mandalorian, attempting to give the last three movies some support? Two birds with one stone sorta thinking?

Since I have always loved the look of the A2 Flight Jackets and own a couple I have no problem with the leather jackets in the show.

Some good insight here. According to Paul, all jackets were different for each Pilot.
That‘s good to know. I not up to digging through a 3 hour video but I am glad others are interested enough to ask him these question.

I sort of got the feeling the other jackets could be different as it looked like the other pilots/directors at the bar had various seams on the back in various locations. But it so dark it could just be lighting or resolution tricking the eye.

So I have to wonder if only his was custom and then they just grabbed a bunch of various leather jackets to round out the scene. who knows, possibly even personal jackets that they can now claim as screen used. .

Either way it sort of opens up the possibility for cosplayers to develop their own idea of what a pilot jacket might look like.

The first 1.5 hours is just saying hello to everyone.

All jackets where custom made and no two same.
Patches designed by each wearer.
I hope we get to see them then. I’m interested to see what the jackets and patches look like.

I’m guessing there was some sort of wolf on Filoni’s patch. I would be surprised otherwise.

IIRC, didnt Mirax wear it, and the Bacta aqueen gave her a bunch of grief about Corran not getting any sleep?

That’s the mention I remember. I don’t recall much about those books as it was read over 20 years ago but that line stood out for me. I tried not to read too much into it since I do not remember them making a description of the jacket so it could have simply been something like a Hoth style flight jacket. I looked through Wookieepedia and they have this image but I’m not sure where it came from. My guess is that some ran with the idea…
