Found a local molding / casting supply shop, so will try to cast the handle in resin.

Was going to coat it in Varathane to known down the balsa frain, but to my eye, the grain of the balsa actually looks quite natural.

Hopefully if I mold it well, the grain will be captured. Then a thin wash with some burnt umber or raw sienna will age it nicely.

Still have the dleather and sinew wraps to do, and to weather the blade.

Testor's has Metalizer paints - spray and buff. At least one is a darker color; Titanium maybe. I'll use that on the blade.
