Legends Dooku Jedi Knight lightsaber

Love this thread, there is a lot of information! Didn´t see that coming like the Plumbing part and the graflex 2-cell bottom!

Indeed I do. :)

The Jedi Dooku saber was made by RPFer Justin Chung and first appeared in the art by Joe Corroney (group pic of Yoda, young Qui-Gon, Dooku, and the Wookiee Jedi whose name I don't remember right now).
My art was from Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force.
I only have two shots of the saber although Justin may have more. I'll let him know about this thread.

As mentioned above the top is a pop up drain. the middle is a bronze cast Obi-Wan grenade (common for the prop community at the time, sold by a UK militaria dealer IIRC), bottom is a Heiland endcap. I believe the emitter was an extra cap from Justin's Qui-Gon saber. The old Larbel replica came with an optional open hole emitter for installing a blade.

I'm not sure if the saber appears anywhere else. It may be in comics drawn by Jan Duursema as we are all friends with Justin.
I built the Tenel Ka and A'Sharad Hett lightsabers for the book which also appeared in the Star Wars Encyclopedia. I did the whole lightsaber guide page which was a mix of real props, artwork, and photos of a few lightsabers I made, including the Stormtrooper lightsaber.

Chris
Glad you have these pics! And thanks for filling in the missing/crucial details of the story. I thought I did pretty good thought for remembering 20year old rpf threads ;) Considering I remember very little else from that time in my life :)

So here is the updated model, I did another version with more grooves on the rounded piece but it looked overcrowded so I only added 4 grooves like the endcap. I think this balances the design better. Made some changes on the grenade section as well but I'm not trying to replicate the original grenade, more like trying to resemble the illustration since this is the idealized version.

Thoughts?

Love the changes for the hilt especially the red button. I also agree that an interpretation of the original found parts design is the way to go and to have it along side other prequel hilts and give it new life.

Another note does anyone know which books the art and the hilt are in?

I think that looks great and also I can actually kinda see how a saber with that design could have been Dooku V1 and the curved AOTC saber was V2.

And if an apprentice is basing one's hilt off of a master's design is a thing, this show's a one-to-one connection of Qui-Gon being Dooku's apprentice at one point. Which, I think, was the basis of this hilt to begin with.

This inspiration for this hilt came from a real lightsaber hilt that was built by a rpf board member in the early 2000. Chris Trevis (lonepigeon on the board and the founder of the partsofsw) Did these illustrations. And he based it on the build that was done hear. If the threads still remain, your replica can just be based on the original found parts.

If my memory is correct, they are
1. A plumbing part from home Depot.
2. A bronze casting on a real no.3 grenade that used to be sold to a lot of prop builders. They were a little smaller than a real no. 3 due to brass shrinkage in the casting process.
3. Black electric tape.
4. A graflex 2-cell bottom (the black tale covers the cut outs in the 2-cell bottom)
5. An octagonal end cap from a heiland flash.
And there's a covertech clip on the side.
I don't think there's a single lightsaber related thing that starkiller doesn't know

This goes hard asf dang

I'm going to add my two cents on the design update. I've got a degree in Industrial Design, and I gotta flex.

I like the four lines on the upper section. It adds a bit of visual interest. However, I don't think the Heiland style pommel meshes with the rest of the hilt. There aren't any other flat surfaces. To me, the octagonal pommel just looks completely out of place. It is too abrupt and distorts the natural flow of the design's lines. The other part of this is that the first iteration of the design had the two black ring details on the pommel. This broke-up the back end of the hilt and prevented it from having too much chrome running from the end of the grip to bottom. I realize that this will probably be a very unpopular opinion, but it is what it is.

I also want to mention the button. Why is the button a smaller diameter on the updated design? I liked the look of the wider button on the first iteration. I'd actually like to see the button with the same orange marbled/candy/Bakelite finish of the Anakin ROTS button instead of plain old red.

All feedback is welcomed, this is how we improve and grow.

The button size was changed to reflect the hires illustrations. however i think i went a bit too far on it.. the button it actually flared out on the bottom but the render shows it to be straight due to reflections.

Ill increase the diameter and see how it looks.
