I thought everyone on this run would like a status update. As I mentioned, the base of the belt has been changed to a thicker leather. I've also found a better color for the belt. I'm done cutting the leather for all of January's (and Decembers!) run and in the process of punching all the leather. Rather then doing one belt at a time, I'm taking more of an assembly line approach, which is proving to be faster, and all the belts will be done at roughly the same time.

I received one of Charlie's belts just yesterday, and all I can say is that it is awesome!! The attention to detail and the stitching looks very professional and accurate to the movie. The size fit well too... it goes on overtop of my StarLord pants, and velcros firmly at the back.

It also made me realize that I have to glue on some kind of belt clip to my Walkman to get it to attach onto the belt... At any rate the total effect is very cool. Thanks so much Charlie!

I'm in the process of dying and stitching the leather this week. Still on course for the end of the month.

First belt is sewn and died. Will be working the buckles and rings this weekend. Here's an image of the new color and thickness. Coloring is much closer to the film now.

I meant to mention something after reading dstengler's post. I don't recommend hanging anything from these belts. The belt itself would hold any weight fine, but if you're going for screen accurate, Star-Lord's pants don't have loops and the belt will sag under the weight. If you attach the Walkman, I'm afraid it may go tumbling off and that would be a real tragedy. I plan on cheating and attaching my Walkman to the top of my pants over the belt.

Okay! Belts for December and January run start shipping this week. As I mentioned in an earlier post, we may bleed a little into February on this, but this shouldn't affect the February run itself. I also made some significant improvements to the look of the belt that I'll share some images of tonight. Thanks again everyone!

So, here's what I've been working on. Honestly, I thought the first couple of belts were too dark. I've gotten the color where I want it to be by switching dyes and applying with an airbrush. In addition, I've been able to add subtle shading to the edges which you can see in the comparison shots below. I've also been able to give the belts the shine that Star Lord's belt has, like oiled leather. I'm very happy with where the belt is now, and I'm proud to say it's design is finally complete. I hope you all like the final product.

This first image shows the belts in the different states. From right to left - base brown down, shading added, sheen added.

The second image shows the sheen up close.

I love this guy. Never did business with him before this run, but Charlie is the model of a great RPF vendor. After receiving his first completed belt in December, he asked for any feedback on the product. It was really a beautiful piece already, but he took the couple notes I had and reworked the belt to incorporate those things along with even more improvements of his own and replaced mine with his new design for no additional cost. Thank you, Charlie - I'll be copying this to your feedback thread but I thought it should be visible in this run. Killer!
