LAPD Badges?

After further research I'm inclined to believe this is a replica (and a well-made one based on the 1940-68 Entenmann-Rovin/LASSCO Series 6) with a custom rank

Though Post 9/11 times made it harder to get any badges, and specifically FEDERAL badges, LAPD's seconds and replica badges dried up in the U.S. primarily due to the LAPD copyrighting the seal of L.A. City Hall for their badges.

Just like L.A. County Sheriff Dept. (they copyrighted THEIR patch) you can't get a look a like, but not because of impersonation reasons, but because they are pulling the "copyrighted" card....

CHP is the same way.

this old thread keeps popping up half year or so. If your in the know, you can get just about anything. LASD badges are notoriously difficult to get ahold of even for film use and the general rentals are an outdated model. Im told a couple popular tv shows had to stop using them due to C&D by LASD lawyers.

These are casting tests, strait from the mold, no paint. The paramedic and LAPD badges are generic rental type badges but the star is off a real one. The brass knucks are also castings. If you hunt you can still track down proper seal LAPD badges at rental houses. What many of the guys do is print their own seal on self stick decal paper if need be. These are not for sale so please dont ask.

What do you mean Series 6 V bottom? You mean the series 6's that were more narrow at the bottom such as the ones made by LASSCO?
Yes and also the style of Sergeant 714 replicas that were sold by a company named Pine Ridge 7 until 2004. This style replica was all over the place until 2006. Who ever made them did custom ranks/numbers as well as the standard LAPD ranks. In fact, I had a replica ADAM-12 badge set styled like that.

Have any pics of the Adam-12 badges? I just recently became interested in Adam-12 badges and would love to see more accurate reproductions.

Bumping this thread because I just got hold of a Columbo LAPD series 1 badge after years of searching (already had the series 2)

Very nice! Still needing to find and buy Mel Gibsons badge from the first Lethal Weapon when he slams his badge down during the drug deal scene at the Christmas tree lot.

You can go to a police uniform store, yes usually you have to be a cop but if you explain your a prop guy they will prob sell you one. Even in small towns, they send away to have them made and you pick them up, I have picked up nypd, london, chicago, miami, and melboure badges. Some departments call them "shields". Just dont get caught walking around with one in your pocket or around your neck lol.

Here's pics of the adam 12 badges - i think they're pics of the authentics used in the series. Try WestEnd Emblems and Shield Police Badges.. they put out good stuff. Some good ones show up on Ebay once in awhile, but end up over priced. Hollywood Prop Badges makes them, but they're wrong in many ways and WAY overpriced for lousy replicas. Hope the pics are a good guide.Adam12sGOOD.jpg

I'm still looking for a good Terminator T-2 LAPD 572 Badge and Det. 8986 (Die Hard). Always looking for good replica LAPD's representing just about any TV or Film series.. Dragnet to Lethal Weapon. Any available.. let me know.

Hi guys, for those who wish to purchase a real LAPD Badge. You can no longer purchase one as it is now illegal. I am a Police Officer within the LAPD at Hollywood Division.

Thansk form the info. I just bought this replica badge. The seal, rank, city and number are all stuck on with clear stickers, just like the screen used badge from Die Hard.

As you will find with replica badges the color of writing is black. The real badges are blue lettering. And the second difference is the curve of the badge. How to tell from a fake to a real. A real badge is completely curved where as a fake badge is only half curved. The weight of a fake badge is around next to nothing. A real badge is the same as holding an iphone in your hand.

Ooh nice!
Can I ask where you got it?

Ebay. The seller has blank LAPD badges as well

That's cool but again, people don't want a REAL badge. They want a replica that is like the movie prop (which were fake badges anyway). I have a replica LAPD badge that is curved, heavy and have engraved blue lettering. It came from Germany.
