Kylo Ren Fabric

I spoke to joanns corporate and they are going to view the material as well as the sleeves to help us out with all of that and I informed them what it was for so nothing less than that quality would work. They are more than willing and the lady shall be getting back to me Saturday. I sent the best pics of what there is on this thread as well as pics I have from celebration.
Any update?

It will be Monday the lady helping had yesterday off so their experts are matching with what they have. I went to a troop meet for 501st today and met the guys helping me with kylo. So I'm locating fabrics they're 3D printing a bucket and saber

Awesome man. I can't get anyone from the local garrison to respond to my posts :( makes me sad. But then again I'm a new guy and have 0 experience in 501st so I get it.

Anyways, can't wait to see what we come up with so we can start on this whole thing!

There's no specs from Disney so we're all going off photos. Yeah I'm lucky I just have made friends with some on Instagram over the years. I'm going for exact so it will be by the end of summer this will be finished. I shall keep you all posted.

Anyone have any idea about the pants, tunic, boots, belt, midcoat, and gloves?

Most likely they're not responding because they have nothing to give. :) we have thread at the 501st sith lord detachment but honestly no one has found a reliable fabric source yet. For the most part I'm updating there on stuff you guys have figured out here. ;) keep up the good work.

If anyone wants to participate with 501st on kylo conversation please join SLD forums. You do not have to be a member.

Wow! This thread is incredible - god I love this community. I'm extremely interested to purchase once the fabric is found as as another 501st member from downunder, let me tell you we've got nothing down here even close to resembling the fabric.

Will look forward to more discussion and when the time comes, hopefully I'll be able to throw my money at a link on here for material. In the interim, I'll head on over to the SLD and just keep reading.

Thank you all that have contributed to this thread, especially the OP :)

Sez.

I've been hunting around the Denver area and found this interesting fabric sample to add to the mix. It's cost-prohibitive for me, at least from Wesco, but it might be a decent lead for those on here talking to manufacturers and not as cost-constrained. They did not have it in black, but perhaps the manufacturer does.

Included my finger for scale, but info is also on the label. It's s .25. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1430159620.115187.jpg

The sheen in the pictures make it appear like a rough wicker, but that is not how it appeared in person. It is a medium soft/stiff poly with a sheen.

Also, I've been testing various products for dying the fabric. I was having trouble reaching a black enough black on a cheaper piece of fabric I found, so I'm playing with fabric paints and leather dyes. I think the "coating" could possibly be one of these or these could be used to replicate that look. I'm also playing with ways to add metallic. We've had a batch of wet weather. I'm waiting for the air to dry to get a good set of results to share.

Though, ideally, I'd find a fabric already of the right mix. Idealism and budget don't always agree. :-D

These are the two closest finds. Both are basket weaves and both would need to be dyed and I'm not sure how well they'd take to dye.

I just tried dyeing the first cream/white fabric (70% wool, 30% cotton) It didn't accept the dye completely even though I added vinegar (wool needs the acid in vinegar to accept dye). I ended up with caramel brown. So that one seems to be a no-go. A shame, because the weave wasn't too bad even though it's still far from being perfect. : (

A custom option would be real good right now... can't imagine that it'd be hard to move 50+ yards. (I mean, if the Galactica crowd can move hundreds of yards of flight suit material, the Big Bad of the new Star Wars should be super easy.) Just for fun, I might check with a couple places here in Sweden, since "monk's cloth" comes from here. (I'm guessing it'll be crazy expensive though.)

I'm going to dye some monks cloth tonight and try some metallic fabric spray once the dye settles in. I'm just experimenting with things to see if I can get close fx to what is seen in the pictures. I'll post the results once I try some stuff out, and if I can get close to replicating it. Though, their coating looks to be a denser, rub on sort of coating, and not a spray.

I have not had luck finding a metallic fabric paint that doesn't look like children's glitter. Does anyone have a lead for where one might buy that?
