Kyle Reese (WIP)

Ah yes, the good old newel cap... they are very distinctive though, as in, you know what it is, if you know what I mean, it's your sculpture sitting on a newel cap :D

That's what I instantly thought when I saw your last picture though!? hence why I tried finding something similar which you could buy readily

it looks like the top of my bannister :wacko

I know what you mean, but there are plinths and bases made in this style, newels tend to bulge out where mine curves in... I could only find one newel like that, and it had all the other steps and ridges on too.

The bases have all been difficult. I usually have something in mind while I have been sculpting the bust, but that changes as I try to make it, or in Kyle's case gets discarded altogether. The pic you showed is what I made before adding the curves of plastic, just two different sized pieces of wood glued together. It's just a little too basic for me.

Anything Alan does, is perfect....I don't see any of the rest of us people sculpting anything , LOL.....Alan your skills of detail is exceptional and whatever base you decide will work.....just don't forget to mail it to me......LOL...LOL...

I love the new base! This is a beautiful piece of work!

Mold! Pour! Ship!

By the way, guys, ol' Alan, here, began sculpting and producing amazing garage kits in the U.K. decades ago! When he offers these for sale it will be your chance to add a piece to your collection sculpted by an early garage kit giant.

Again, truly incredible work!

I've had the privilege of meeting Alan and I saw this bust in its early stages, and to look at it now, it's class. Can't wait to see how this looks once it's painted up.

I'm liking the new base! Looks a lot better, nice & simple :) :thumbsup

Thanks Leigh, I'm happy with it and it is better than what I had before... thanks for drawing my attention to it.

Your enthusiasm for my work is always appreciated, Guy, thanks!

Ol' Al is just about how I'm feeling these days :D Back in those days (before the internet) I never knew so many people knew of my work (yeah, I didn't really think people were buying the Garage Kit books :) ) The Terminator busts looked great on your shelf.

Very kind of you to say so... it was a pleasure to chat with you too.

A true work of art, really fantastic. Id LOVE to see a Hicks and Hudson, id buy both without a moments thought.

Thanks, Nick. Aliens is another favourite of mine, so who knows. I'd love to sculpt Lance Hendrickson as Bishop.

Aliens and terminator and Predator are my favorites....one of these days.....I would love to see a Hicks sculpture....I know that would be awesome !!!!

Appreciate that postmanpat...that was pretty sharp....however ....I was thinking of one day, I hope , Alan may make me one similar to how he did the Kyle Reese...have hicks holding a pulse rifle on his shoulder....that's a dream of mine as well as a T-800 endoskull and a Kyle reese...and I think I would be the happiest ugly RPF member in the world...LOL

I too would love to see Alan sculpt a Hicks, Hudson, Bishop & Vasquez in the same scale! :cool
I can only imagine how difficult it can be with curtain characters to achieve a true likeness, Alan definitely has the ability!!! They would make an Awesome set ;)

I'd still love to see a Future War Kyle Reese-

but a Hicks would be badass as well-

I say chop off the Reese head and offer 3 different body options. :)

This image of Hicks would make an Awesome bust!!!!!!!!!:thumbsup

Though I think the face would need re-sculpting to get that look on his face :cool In this image he has quite a different look on his face to Alan's Kyle, Alan you've got to do this one :love:love

Great chat, guys. I certainly helps to get the creative juices going. That is a great image of Hicks. I think I need to get two projects on the go next, then when one is flagging, I can go to the other. What's been happening in the past is that I run into problems, or can't get the likeness, or just lose inspiration (as I did with Kyle at one time) and then I don't sculpt at all for months at a time.

Al

Alan , that is very understandable , I got a few props, myself, I starting making with my hands , and filing , sanding and just countless , ruthless hours , making stuff from aluminum, and I just got burned out with painting and still haven't painted anymore....since 1 month and a half now...you do loose the so called MOJO...LOL...it takes motivation to get back in the swing.....so much time and energy go into these....and hey we still have real life duties to perform, and when you have time, and want to spend an hour or so getting back into on a weekend , when things calm down, and you feel like it, then you jump in , only when your heart is in your work.....that's what makes it come out the way it does, beautiful work....you got talent , just don't do or take anything on , till you are ready....your skills aint going anywhere my friend...LOL

Also almost forgot....about Hicks , there are several scenes that are without his helmet, and do have a few good shots of him in the film , that have a few closeups ......so in 2027...I want one...LOL....sorry Alan , just couldn't resist my friend....talk with you soon

Alan, the build is looking tremendous. I know where you are coming from with losing the inspiration. My sculpt is starting to turn a corner now, but this only really happens about 2 seconds after I'm ready to smash the thing to pieces. I have to just keep working through the bits when they don't work and have the confidence to make big changes if necessary. The payback is you get a real buzz when it does start working.

I've spent about 2 weeks on the Rancor face. I'll get it great from one reference picture and then I move to another picture from a different angle and try to marry together the new information. It is frustrating and you need the patience of a saint. I'm starting to really appreciate just how much hard work goes into your sculpts. Not just hard work, but subtlety which people just won't understand until they see your work in the flesh.

One other thing which makes a difference is making sure the lighting on a sculpt more or less matches the photo reference. I have therefore been doing mine in a cave :)

Anyhow, keep going! Perhaps think about a change of scale for your next build? The Tiny Arnie head you made worked brilliantly, so it may be a nice change to work bigger or smaller?

Take care,
Chris
