Kyle Reese (WIP)

Hi Cadeus, thanks and you're welcome, and if you have any questions feel free to ask in here or shoot me a PM.

Thanks, Pixi :)

Cadeus, I've been putting in a new kitchen so not had much time lately, but I'll try and take a pic at the weekend, but there's not a lot to see.

Thanks, I'm looking forward to getting this guy finished up. I'm hoping a decent paint job will enhance the likeness.

Just remembered too, I was going to experiment with giving him a bit of stubble. Usually stubble is marked into the face with a fine tool, which can look fine, especially on smaller pieces, but I wanted to try with more sculpey or epoxy on top of the face... not sure how it will work out, but can only try...

Knocked up a stand today... the idea sorta being it's the corner of the kitchen table. What do you think?

Alan, as you know I think Kyle is an Outstanding piece!
If I'm to be brutally honest though... the table top isn't working for me :unsure
It doesn't ruin anything! it just doesn't quite seem to fit...if you get me :unsure
I understand its difficult due to Kyle having very few possessions throughout the film.
I certainly cant think of anything better :confused
It looks good, don't get me wrong, it just doesn't look quite right to me, personally

I love nearly everything about this except, perhaps, how the photo and the other elements interact. This may be what Leigh is getting at also. The way the photo fits so precisely under the bust is just too "arranged looking," if that makes sense. It also forces the bust up too far above the table top and emphasizes that the photo is too big for the scale of the figure. If you brought the bust down closer to the base and the photo lay across the pipe bombs more horizontally I would like it better. The pipe bombs would be covered more by the photo but it will still be clear what they are, I believe. As the viewer looks down at the bust, the photo will still be nicely visible but it's size will be de-emphasized, I believe, and the photo and the pipe bombs will all look like items on the table rather than the photo standing mysteriously up on its edge.

This is a beautiful bust and I badly want it in my collection. None of these quibbles change that at all, nor will the presence or absence of stubble which could be added with a little flocking after painting if sculpting it doesn't work out.

Hmmm, I cant help wondering if the photo being in scale with Kyle might work :unsure
The only other items he uses in the film, are the bag that he forces the pipe bombs into & the metal bar he clouts the Terminator with near the end.

Thanks for your thoughtful responses. I have to admit that I have reviewed the photos with your comments in mind but it all still looks good to me. I guess it is unusual to have it looking like the bust is supported on top of a photograph, but to me it looks natural and fitting to the subject. If someone could better articulate what they feel doesn't look right, I might be able to evaluate better. When I originally showed the photoshop mockup there was no table top, but the response was overwhelmingly positive... it's not the colours throwing it off, is it? I'd like to hear some other opinions, positive and negative before I keep or rethink the current design.

Steve, I take onboard what you are saying, but in my experience, something flat, that is lying flat, is difficult to see unless you are looking down on it. And if the bust is up on a shelf, then the photo won't be seen at all. I could try making the photo smaller, I think if it was 1/3 of what it is now, it would probably be in scale with Kyle, which would bring the bust down some, but I feel that it may diminish the photo too much... the photo being in scale was never my intention as I always felt it would be too small, but I can try it.

Thanks again for taking a look and offering your thoughts.

Alan, if it looks good to you & your happy with it, that's all that matters :)
There's no doubt it does look good but... it could well be the colours throwing it off for me personally :unsure

Leigh, check back at the photoshop mockup and see what you think... I think the pipe bombs being the right colour make a big difference and also the table top painted and weathered would change how it looks. You sometimes see the upper part of the leg on wooden tables, so I was thinking of adding that too to complete the corner (you don't really see what kind of table it is, so I have taken licence with that). I'm not trying to brow-beat you into liking it, I completely respect your artistic vision, but at the moment, without something concrete for me to look at, I'm not sure what I would change, or how I would change it.

Love this sculpt and the pipe bombs but I wouldn't display it with photo unless it was scaled down.
That's just me though, i'd still kill to own this bust.

Ok, For me personally, I think its the table top.
Its not too obvious what the table top actually is, as you say by adding a portion of the leg it may help but I think to really pull it off you'd need to see a bit more of the leg, which would make it higher & unstable.
I personally really like the bottom part of the base on the last Terminator you did, the bit below the endo part of the base.

If I may make a suggestion, I assume at this point nothing is glued & screwed down permanently?
Could you use the rounded lower base from the Terminator, add the other 3 bombs, so 6 in total, with the picture?? even just a photoshop just to see?
