Kurtyboy Archives, 6 Aug: help with rotj vader MOM saber

Re: Kurtyboy Archives 14 March: Alien(s) stuff

Kurty, you shouldn't be allowed to have show off threads... I keep ruining keyboards with drool! LOL!!!

Love the sabers as always. That SDS TIE is mucho improved. And the pulse rifle is just redamneddiculous!

(y)thumbsup:cheers

Re: Kurtyboy Archives 14 March: Alien(s) stuff

Definitely an awesome Aliens collection , congrats on your hero version PR....

Re: Kurtyboy Archives 14 March: Alien(s) stuff

Some really sweet stuff, Marcus. (y))

It seems everyone here has a collection - beside me. I only have a lot of unfinished stuff and more stuff in boxes. Not a single piece i can call completely "DONE" ..... a bubble strip missing here, the correct d-ring missing there, an accurate scope missing on another piece - and so on. :lol

Re: Kurtyboy Archives 14 March: Alien(s) stuff

That's cos you're a relatively new kid on the block here and some of us old barstewards have been hoarding stuff for over ten years ;)

Ten whole years. I have pieces from when I was 7 in 1978. Not kidding. My original Kenner Falcon. Pretty beat up after years of playing so I refurbished it.

I actually have a number of things from when I was a kid.

I guess I have been building my collection for 30 years now Took a break from 1987ish to early 90s before it started again. :D

Those were toys, we all had them. They don't count.

Naaaa...that´s simply because Michael is more busy with machining stuff for our needs and doing commisioned builds, than actually building props for his own collection ;)

The original Kenner Millenium Falcon is more than just a toy,..it's a gateway to another world. If it is captured by the Nazis mankind would suffer an eternity,.....Oh,..sorry, mixing my movies :p :p

Okay if we are talking just "prop" it would have to be a resin Blade Runner gun (That I won't display but thought was the coolest thing at the time), and Illusive's Jabba and Yoda. Those were my first "props'. I bought them both when they first came out. 1994 I believe. So 19 years then.

Re: Kurtyboy Archives 14 March: Alien(s) stuff

Nope, wait. I made a Boba Fett helmet out of a motorcycle helmet to go with my go kart when I was 13. 1984. That would count as a prop.

Re: Kurtyboy Archives 14 March: Alien(s) stuff

Well I did make this (and a bunch of other stuff) for a home movie in 1985 (and it's two sequels), plus masks, guns and ships from V (for a home movie that never got made!). Oh and also guns for a Cobra inspired movie in '86 including Cobra's gun that could be broken down and kept in a case... but I don't count those either.

My first prop was a Luke Graflex in 2002.

Re: Kurtyboy Archives 14 March: Alien(s) stuff

I would say those all count.

I have been looking for a Cobra Jatimatic Airsoft forever.

Kurtyboy Archives, 16 July: Vader RotJ saber upgrades!

I'm back to bore you with more lightsabers! :sleep :facepalm

Earlier in the thread I showed some of the sabers that were due some upgrades or overhauling, and now it's the Vader RotJ's turn.

As it looked a few months ago once I ripped the rubber grips off. A shiny new set of Gino grips at the ready...
vadrotjrebuild4.jpg

For a start I wasn't impressed with the resin control box and also after examining the many photos of the original prop I could see too many details were missing or were inaccurate.

Here's the new set up partially assembled before I drill some holes, clean the parts up, re-paint and do final assembly and weathering:
vaderrotjup1.jpg

Real Kobold bracket, Gino grips and addition of brass disc.
vaderrotjup2.jpg

Machined Obi1Kenny control box in which I've replaced the solid cylinders with proper screws.
vaderrotjup3.jpg

It's all in the details! More accurate vintage door latch sans logo, some tiny screws, and notice the white inner tube
showing in the rectangular hole.
vaderrotjup4.jpg

vaderrotjup5.jpg

If it wasn't for the (S) logo this part would be the shnitz! Super accurate threading inside and out, and again notice the
white inner tube pressed against it which forces it forward. My old inaccurate part was centred.

You still awake!? :lol

Re: Kurtyboy Archives 14 March: Alien(s) stuff

Did anyone ever figure out exactly what's going on here?
vrotjslots-2.jpg

I have tried various positions but can't get it to match. There might be something else under there but I don't know what and I did look at the old thread but still couldn't get it to look right.

Also working on the Naboo detonator made from the found parts, then it'll be cast in resin.

Still need to figure out how to do the other layers. Thinking of sculpting them on.

Re: Kurtyboy Archives, 16 July: Vader RotJ Saber upgrades!

Cool I always liked the ROTJ Vader saber. I only have the MR version though, not a real one. Who found the Naboo detonator parts? Can you PM the details? I had one started from scratch, but apparently it's not how they did it...

Re: Kurtyboy Archives, 16 July: Vader RotJ Saber upgrades!

WOHOOOOOO!!!!

Marcus is back and with him prop-awesomeness :D

Great upgrades to the MoM DV saber and a good start at the Naboo detonator so far :thumbsup

Markus :)

Re: Kurtyboy Archives, 16 July: Vader RotJ Saber upgrades!

Hi Marcus,

Here you can see that the shroud is not symmetrical either
and the D-ring has a slight bend in the center and is more
round in the bended corners:

As for that picture with the opening I suspect that there's
some friction inside which causes the opening of the black
'clamp' part ... whether this was also the case on screen ...
is beyond my current knowledge. Love the upgrade of your
ObiKenny controlbox which is still the correct part I'm still
looking for as a screen-accurate replacement of the one I
have now.

-Chaim

Re: Kurtyboy Archives, 16 July: Vader RotJ Saber upgrades!

Thanks, I will file down the shroud corners then. As for the inside of the tube under thr midband, what is crearing the two apparent slots? There is something in there!
