Kick-Ass 2 (Post-release)

Wow - the premise of "What would it be like if there were Superheroes in the real world" was seriously tossed out the window and nuked at point blank range. Then again, I suppose as soon as Hit Girl and Big Daddy show up in the first film it was as fantasy as any other spandex cape endeavor. The thing that bugs me is they use "real world" limitations sparingly but when they need a 15yr old girl to do a flip off a van roof bending back the arm of the passenger then punching him in the face, they do. Constantly stepping back and fourth over the line of "what would really happen..."

And MAN - Jim Carrey looks OLD - even with the mask.

But don't get me wrong I'll go see this - Hit Girl is quickly becoming Hot Girl and with any luck these things will continue being made until she can do nude scenes.
I don't think the "real world" concept was ever applied to the film, that was the graphic novel idea IIRC(havn't read them yet). It's just the idea that nobody has super powers, unlike most "spandex cape endeavors" :lol.
I didn't see anything further "out there" in the trailer or the 1st film than most action movies. The 1st film didn't step back and forth on physics, it just showed the rated R result of violence that "would" occur if you weren't trying for a PG-13 rating. The physics are standard action movie ;)

The action movie physics don't fall into play until Big Daddy and Hit Girl show up - before that he's just a guy with a couple of sticks. Granted, the whole "feels no - or very little - pain" thing is a stretch - which is why I choose to see this as another "Over the Rainbow" production. He died when the car hit him - everything else - hooking up with the girl of his dreams, more Superheroes, and all that takes place only in his head as he's dying.

This was my main problem with the first movie. It seemed they couldn't decide whether they wanted to make a semi-serious movie, a parody, or a comedy, so they attempted a little of each and it didn't quite blend well. Considering some of the movies I've seen in recent years, if that's my biggest complaint they've done a good job.

Without the action movie physics it would be a rather boring film, most people don't want to watch a teenager in a wet suit taking a beat down for 2 hours. :D
:lol I used the "over the rainbow" concept to make it through Ironman and Avengers! :lol. Tony died in the terrorist attack from the 1st film, the following movies are all his dream as he's dying in the desert. :lol ;)

Even the ones he wasn't in? I think he's too much of a narcissist to come up with backstory for his supporting characters :lol

I knew that was going to be your answer :)

I guess it's one explanation for why Rhodey changed actors, the brain failing led him to forget what his best friend looked like. Seriously though, interesting alternative character interpretation. Half tempted to pop in the films right now and watch them with that idea in the back of my mind.

Even though the physics aren't very real world, the severity of the situation is.

That's what I loved about the first one. The emotion depth of the danger involved.

When Big Daddy is tortured, it felt VERY real

That's why you should give Hero at Large with John Ritter a try - they stick with the Hero in the real world notion all the way to the end and the end is fantastic - trust me if you haven't seen it, please pick it up or download it - Ritter is great as Captain Avenger.

And Bigdaddy - Tony died from the terrorist attack in the first film is a good one - it works 100% to view his continuing actions as "Over the Rainbow". The disease he suffers from is actually his body breaking down, stepping over to the other side. Heck Banner probably died in the Gamma explosion. Steve Rogers died when he tossed his body on the grenade at military camp - the rest is all "Over the Rainbow".

I'm both excited and nervous for this movie. I just really hope they don't screw it up, since the first one is a legend in its own right. But I'm definitely excited to see Jim Carrey in this. There's elements I'm excited for, some not-so much. I'm glad I've read the KA2 comics as well as the Hit-Girl spinoff, just from the trailer I can see how they've included a lot of things. They seem to be following the source material pretty well, which is both exciting and horrifying.

Don't like Hit-Girl's new costume, and The Mofo's BDSM drag queen get-up is just terrible. But that was probably the point. Also if Hit-Girl and Kick-Ass end up together, and god help me I think it might actually happen, I'm going to flip a table. Just... no.

Can't wait to see John Leguizamo and Morris Chestnut.

Looks like Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been doing a lot of sit-ups.

Carrey can play things subdued if he needs to. I really like what I see with this trailer.

I'm glad somebody else mentioned "Hero at Large" as that was a fun film I haven't seen since my childhood. I agree, good ending. Did it ever come out on DVD?

I actually like Jim Carrey's performance in this trailer. His backstory is he is an ex-mobster turned good guy, and I"ve known a few mobsters and part of the mannerisms are dead on to a few of the guys I met back when I was in LE.

Yes. It's out. One of our RPF brothers actually won John Ritter's costume in a Profile's auction - so jealous am I. Mr Fusion also has one that you'd think was the real thing - but everything he makes looks authentic.

It looks pretty good, and I love seeing John Ritter in just about anything, added to my netflix list! :thumbsup
I had planned on wearing my Big Daddy costume to the opening of Kick-Ass 2, but I don't think it would be a good idea anymore unfortunatley :(
I'll be seeing this opening night, but I might take my daughter the 2nd night, depending on the content :confused:lol
