Kick-Ass 2 (Post-release)

I saw the 8pm show last night and... His politics aside, Carey did turn in a credible performance. The film itself was a little disappointing. Think: The Matrix Reloaded. I've thumbed through the comics, but am not intimately familiar with all the details but it seems, like the first one, the film departs from the book on many points.

NOTE: Stay after the credits!
There is something important.

I went in with low expectations, after reading reviews, and I still came out a little disappointed. BUT! I still had fun! I was going to watch this movie anyway, even if the reviews said it sucked, since I liked hanging out with the characters and don't have to sit through another origin story.

Problems: lot of miss jokes, some dialogue didn't feel real when spoken, nothing new story wise and some slow parts. I was bummed that the cinematography was less sleek and weaker then the first movie. The first movie has some beautiful shots like the super hero jumping off the building into the car.

Pros: I re-watched Mystery Men when it hit netflix a couple months back, and I realized I wanted to see a sequel. This movie is what Mystery Men would be today if it was violent. What really saved this movie for me, were the characters. I loved Mother Russia, loved how bad ass the Black Death looked. Loved seeing 'Black Scrubs' run around with a baseball bat. Jim Carey was great, but I wish he had more screen time. Who really stole the show for me was the Red Mist, aka The Mother****er aka Christopher Mintz-Plasse. He was such a fun villain, and I totally dug his backstory. Any time he was on screen I was a excited.

Man, I'm bummed that they changed the actor for the character Todd. In the first movie, Todd was played by (Evan Peters). Evan did a fantastic job in the American Horror Story show, that without googling the reason, is that he may not have wanted to return as a minor role in this movie. Clark Duke returning made up for it. Dude makes me laugh.

I don't know if it was intentional or not for a laugh, but I did anyway at the photo of Nick Cage hanging on the wall in some shots smiling.

Overall, I think Kick Ass 2 had the same problem as Mystery Men. Which was near the last fight scene, you know how its probably going to end which breaks the tension.

I also saw the 8 PM showing last night, and I enjoyed the film. Not as much as the first, and the tweaks from the books were substantial in places (I treat movies and books as two separate entities, and this is not exception - and most of the tweaks they did were understandable for the different medium, but one was a bit...odd), but overall it was a fun ride.

But the main reason I'm posting is simply to say: Oh, Mystery Men. Such a fun movie, and yes, characters win all the way both there and here.

Great comparison with Mystery Men and had the same feeling about the Colonel before going into it.

At least he got in one good fight scene. I completely forgot he was Jim Carey half way through.

That's perfect! You pull off the attitude too! Did you make the bowling ball? That thing is sick. I wonder what happened to the screen used one?

This movie makes me excited to see all the cos player costumes of these KA2 characters for Halloween or comic cons. Especially if people have a group of friends to fill all the roles.

I saw it today and enjoyed it. Like some who have posted, I still think the first movie is better, but only because of Big Daddy. I don't like Nic Cage's acting in almost anything but I absolutely loved his performance as Big Daddy. Colonel Stars was great. I couldn't believe it was Jim Carrey and just hoped there was more of him. McLovin was awesome.

I'm not familiar with the comic so I don't know if the two things I didn't fully like/understand were the way things went down in the comic. Anyhow
I didn't understand how Dave & Katie's relationship could have ended that easily.
Some of the lyrics to the song played when Brooke[?] was dancing were a bit over the top. They're funny in a terrible way.

how is it possible only 5 pages about an awesome movie, i thought it was better and faster paced and deeper than the first, Hit Girl steals the show again, hopefully a Kick Ass 3 is coming. as for Jim Carrey, he is a ******, so the character was harder to relate to but i got over it, The movie is a must see

Thanks!

And I bought the ball on ebay. Apparently, right after the movie came out, Ebonite made a limited run of them. Only problem is that they only made them for guys, in 14-15-16 lb sizes. Mine is a 15 lb ball. Totally doable, but man does it get old after a while. I carry it in a bag and that's fine for most of the day, but when I pose for cosplay shots, I have to tell folks to hold on pretty often. Holding it out like that is killer! ;D

I'd like to see a Kick-Ass three if only to see if they do go down the comic road with Hit-Girl or not. The ending of the second movie was dramatically different than the comic, for understandable reasons, but if they decide to bring the way the comic ended back in, that would make for an interesting tale.

Everything I've heard about KA2 was pretty negative... including the Rotten Tomatoes program on SiriusXM, which left me with little hope for the flick. The one lady on the RT really liked KA1 and just couldn't believe how bad 2 was.

She was wrong. I really don't know what the RT were watching - because I really thought Kick Ass 2, while far from perfect, was a perfect continuation of the first film. I think it really worked well - in some ways better than the first (I really didn't like the jet pack in the first one).

The sacrificed some of Dave's character development, which was a little sad - but, this was Hit Girl's time for character development.

I agree the critics all seem to have been watching a different movie for the one i saw which was awesome, or maybe critics just suck

Ok, I didn't want to be a fanboy and be the only person sitting in there at the end of the credits. What happened?

I don't know what to make of this movie. It was like a Kick-Ass wannabee. I'm also getting sick and tired of this guy:

I thought it was good. Like always wished it stayed a bit closer to the comics but the changes were ok. One of the strangest changes was merging Colonial Stars & Stripes into one character lol instead of having his brother be Lieutenant Stripes lol.

Chris is shown in a hospital bed. He’s all bruised and bandaged with missing limbs. A glass of water with a straw is next to him, but he’s unable to get to it himself. He’s screaming about how a shark bit his dick off, and he’s not even able to even get a drink of water.

I watched an interview where they added that in case he wanted to come back for Kick-Ass 3, since he was only contracted for 2 of them.

Saw it yesterday - Totally need Hit Girl for a personal trainer, So pumped managed to do a one handed pull up this morning!

I'll be attending the premiere here in The Netherlands tomorrow. I'm hired by the local cinema to show up in a costume...awesome. I am unsure if I get to see the film though.

I just got back as well. I liked it a lot. Not quite up to par as the first one, but still a great film.

I think it is missing the catchy sound track that the original one had. Kudo's to Jim Carrey
on his look too. Didn't look or sound like him at all. I'd watch it again.
