I just received my rubies darth vader helmet from ebay. I only paid $9.99 :D I think it is a great helmet. Well for my price any way :D Im planning on modding it so if you guys could show me some pics of your helmets and if you have any links on how to modify it that would be greatly apreciated.

Im think of trying to make it into a ROTS vader.

thanks

Was it the Rubies Supreme or the Deluxe?

Making it an ROTS helmet will be very tricky. The ROTS is symmetrical and has a long neck brace at the bottom. The Rubies Supreme is (badly) cast from a recast of the ESB helmet and has a much shorter neck and is very much asymmetrical. The Deluxe is amde from the Don Post Deluxe, which was something they whipped up and is waaaay too small.

The Deluxe can be seen in the first few pages of my web site and the Supreme can be seen a little further down.

Ten bucks for a Supreme seems awefully cheap. It's gotta be the deluxe. That one's maybe 3/4ths Vader size. It can work if you're going for more of a scaled Vader.

It is impossible (unless you melt the whole thing down and remold it) to make the Supreme a perfect RotS replica, but most people (casual fans, not the us nuts) can't tell the difference with a few mods.

No it is the supreme. I know it sounds like it is a deluxe but it is a supreme helmet. It is HUGE. It is about 13 inches tall. I know its not a deluxe.

Holy cow. I don't the dimensions off hand, but it sounds right. If the box says "based on the original Lucasfilm molds" (HA.) and it has metal tusks and screen, then you got yourself one heck of a deal. I was thinking about getting another one to mod, but I don't feel like spending another hundred bucks. Guess I'll just try to rework the one I've already modded.

Best deal ever. B)

Now mod the heck out of that bad boy, repaint, and post yer photos. :D

if its a supreme, you done real good for that price. they mostly go for 50 to 80 bucks on ebay by themselves.

if your a memeber on sith training temple, or not, you can register there easily they have tutorials, and other guys who have modded the crap out of the supremes, and after theyre done, they look really nice.

although, makin it into a rots, like said above, is pushing it.

it does however, mod into a nice esb, or rotj lid.

be prepared for a extensive road modding it. i only done a few of them myself to my supreme. lens and eye socket opening up, neck triming, and fixing the flare some, readjusting the domes fit some.

etc..................

welcome to vader modding madness, lol

That was one HECK of a deal.

And here I thought I got a deal last Halloween when one of those local Halloween Express shops was running their 50% off sale. They had only one left over at $60.00 (originally $120.00), but because the box was damaged I told the girl that it completely ruined the collector value, so she gave me another 50% off. So for $30.00 I was pretty happy with what I considered to be a darn accurate Vader helmet -- not to mention HUGE.

Like you, I was planning on upgrading it with new lenses, a real glossy paint job, and whatever else struck my fancy. Well, it still sits on one of my speaker cabinets... untouched. :unsure

Wow.. Either $10 or $30 is a darn good deal for an item that commonly sells for around $100 or more. You'll have to change your title to "Jango Fett - Bargain Hunter".. ;)

Thanks for the input guys.

You can barely see these, but theyÂ’re the only ones I have (I want to tear it apart and rework it again anyway). IÂ’d recommend reshaping the neck flare. ItÂ’s one of the worst features of the Supreme. I didnÂ’t actually use the water since I didnÂ’t have a pot big enough. I used a mini butane torch lighter (recommended to me by someone else) to reshape the neck. After taking out all the padding and cutting out the eyes and nose, I took the torch to the inside of the neck, softened it, shaped it and then put in ice water. I did it several times until I was happy.

The other thing I recommend to everyone starting this is to think very hard about fixing the dome detailing. I didn't do this and when I was done I was pretty dissapointed. That's the main reason I want to redo it. The other is I'd like to see if there's a way to lengthen the neck to give it a more RotS look. Then fix a bunch of little things.

Definitely reshape the neck flare.

Not to mention sanding the whole thing smooth to get rid of that reversed "paint scheme" textured surface. :confused

Yeah, that was a pain. Also need to straighten out the nose, square off the bottoms of the breathing vents and fix the dome mount to adjust the angle to get rid of the "Flying Nun Vader" look.
