Jurassic Park Ford Explorer Toy Upgrade

Process has started.

This toy appears to be 1:18 scale and is fairly good.

The black painting I added is rough, but will be touched up.

Do the doors come off?
Hard to tell.

Excellent question...

Short answer - no.

First; car wash:

In washing the car, I learned the hood graphics are one big sticker (makes sense, in retrospect), which bubbled a little after being doused.

Then...

I thought it had eight screws holding the body to the floor pan. I removed all eight, knowing there were four body clips. Without straining to describe why, I had to remove plastic to release the clips.

I did this, but the floor pan was still secure. I realized there are two more screws under the front tires that I cannot figure out how to remove.

Two of these screws released the rear seat bench.

But ultimately, I've not been able to progress in dismantling the car, so at this point, I have not figured out a way to remove the doors.

Also, the excess material in the window frames may be difficult to remove, since I do not have my motor tool here. I may just cheap out and paint it black.

Toy company is like, "We'll show those toy modders that they can't mess with our product. Hide the screws boys and make it impossible to open up."

Hope you can get it figured out...without destroying it and all.

Oh my effing god you are so so right...!

Let me snap a shot - you'll laugh your ass off...!

Its like working on an actual car.

So they had to have screwed those in before adding the tires.....so its figuring out how in the world those go on or off.
Does pulling really hard seem to budge them, even a little?

Tried to the point I was afraid I'd break it.

I'll try an even smaller screwdriver, but am not optimistic.

Bit more painting today...

Added some Testor's Rubber to the tires; picked out one windshield wiper, did the spokes on the left rear wheel; added some black window trim.

My work so far is sloppy. Hoping to finesse this as I go.

How much of the red pattern is stickers versus paint? This is definitely one of those vehicles I would love in real life. Especially to take camping.

The hood, and the rear quarter panels; tailgate too...

Roof and pillars appear painted.

Hope the stickers react well with a gloss clear coat.

Wonder if you could get those stickers off and cleaned up and have it redone as a clear waterslide decal. If you think that might look better.
I usally prefer decals over stickers, and paint over decals when possible.
Maybe totally repaint the red stripes and logo as decal.
Not sure how much work you were planning on doing to it.

Ever have a project that seems to fight you every step of the way? I think we all have...

This is one...

Either:
--I'm rushing it
--I'm outta "shape" artistically
--My eyes have gotten worse
--I'm fighting the toy cartels who DON'T want their **** improved
--Or all of the above

The latest aggravation is masking tape residue left behind.

ON ******* TAPE MEANT FOR DELICATE ******* SURFACES.....!!!!

**** it all...
