Jurassic Park 3 style Raptor bust

I sculpted this guy about 5 years back as a university project and thought I'd dust him down. I based him largely on the male Raptors in the 3rd JP movie because I liked what they did with the design.

Hes not quite finished and the paint job isn't amazing, but for those of you that don't go via the Junkyard too often here are some pictures:

Thanks guys!

chefhawk quality. love the pics.

...... so whats next ???

Maybe a silicone Clint? But thats quite far down the line.

sparrowfan sweet,
what kinda school/program allows you to do such cool projects

It was a Model Making course at a university here in England. Sculpting wasn't really part of the course but I snuck a few in. Of course, now that I've left its called a Special Effects course and sculpting is as big a part of it as anything else :rolleyes

Cheers,
Steve.

I love it! I always liked the JP3 raptor/Deinonycus design when compared to the other movies. The skin texture, the eyes, the bony crests, the colors.... oh how much they've improved! My only huge gripe about the change is Dr Grant's nightmare with the new raptor design when the old one should have been the one on the plane.... but thats just me. I'm not a fan of those quills though... don't see why they'd serve any purpose if they're supposed to be "feathers" according to the designers. Oh I hope they dont make them fluffy stuffed animals for JP4!

Thanks guys :thumbsup

Yeah, they're much better - although I still love the raptors from the other two. And I never really thought about that scene in the plane that way, thats a very good point. He wouldn't've had a clue what they looked like at that point and if the nightmare was based on his previous experience the raptor should've been of the earlier design. The film had quite a few shortfalls really. But I did like the quills. I thought they were pure fantasy, but added just that little bit extra to their character.

Oh I hope they dont make them fluffy stuffed animals for JP4!
:lol I think that might be a bit too far though.

The paint job is actually fairly accurate, the main thing that stands out is the lack of the white stripe and orange-red. I'd love to see it with the feathers as well, if you plan on continuing work on this!

Thanks everyone :thumbsup

sci-figal Just blow through the bone and no one gets hurt ;P

:lol I'll never see that scene in the same light again.

I think that rather than finishing this one, I'll most likely remake him in silicone one day. When I do I'll definitely add the stripe and feathers and show it here :thumbsup

Oh... then you haven't been boning up on the new theories of dinosaur appearence according to the evolutionists. I swear some of the new theoretical designs I've seen in recent artwork from Louis V. Rey to others on some dino art just look purely ridiculous and most are admitted works of pure fantasy/imagination. They really do look like they could be sold next to your average teddy bear or other stuffed animal!

Wow, that sounds bad. Lets hope they stick with Jack Horner for the fourth installment, he won't let them turn into teddy bears.

Cyberman Lovely piece... Lotsa hard work but wonderfully excecuted.:thumbsup
Thanks! It was 65 million years in the making :lol

Uhh, hes the one of the people that are pushing the feathered dino theory... and wanted to make a fluffy raptor for JP3... but decided to sneak in those quills in order to give it a sense of uniquness. So if they can get away with more and more... I'm gonna expect a creature designed by pure imagination in the next one...:unsure *sigh*.........

Check out some of the dinos on wikipedia to see what I mean by fluffy teddy bears.

And The Dinosauricon
