…frankly, Long’s involvement in all of this has given me a sense of trepidation. After all, he was one of The Experts and Keepers of the Secrets who lorded it over everyone for years, while also giving us such gifts as the fat-bottom comms. He also was a vocal critic of HeroComm, and loudly denounced Alpha, claiming that it was a forgery.

This all explains why the restored Beta comm now has an incorrect “spider” moire pattern (the full-rotation, Alpha style instead of Beta’s). Ah, well.

I've seen many screencaps where you can clearly see they are not there.
Maybe in the "Day of the Dove" I can pretend I might be able to see something, but that's about it.

It looks like they were always on there, same glue and everything (and still are currently). No idea what the intent was.

It appears that the solder must have failed, over the years. Hopefully the “toe” piece is not lost, altogether?

Yes there's a bump and a really slight reflection but it only shows up for a split second
