I went with Krylon deep matte gray, but I almost went with shadow gray... it's a great choice.
For the record, I also went with Shadow Gray on my Brad Nelson/PHASE II replica, for consistency.

On my go to hero phaser I only painted the handle as the body is 3D printed in a near perfect match for the hero, on the handle I actually used DecoArt Obsidian Metallic which just pops nice with a clear coat. My midgrade is about as closed to being a duplicate of a screen used midgrade....View attachment 1845522
It is a 99% accurate copy of a screen used midgrade....I like the color on the mid a LOT! It has the right look of a ruddy, metallic grey.
I'm partial to the dark bronze metallic myself. I just like it. Also it's a near-match for the Wand phaser handle.
Yeah, I think it was a manufacturing error, or a miscommunication with the factory. Something like that. But supposedly the colors are a good match to the Jein....the Wand handle that's too thin, which is odd, considering that they had access to (and scanned) the Jein.
I can see how some might like the color...I'm partial to the dark bronze metallic myself. I just like it. Also it's a near-match for the Wand phaser handle.
in the end there's so many small errors shape wise with the Wand that I find the higher end 3D prints are actually more accurate as they corrected most of the errors of the Wand phaser...the Wand handle that's too thin, which is odd, considering that they had access to (and scanned) the Jein.
Looks like one of those colors where a low gloss clear coat might perfect itWell, I painted it! Looks good! Can't take a proper picture until it is really dry.
But this colour is way closer than the Dark Bronze Metallic... maybe a hair too light, but that's better than too dark & brown. The darkest part of a phaser should be the P1, not the handle.
Thanks again, KUROK!

It's shinier than it looks in this picture- but that's always an option if need be.Looks like one of those colors where a low gloss clear coat might perfect it
yeah all depends on the brand, it seems unless they are formulated as a glossy metallic they always seem to dry flat or lose what little gloss they had kind of quickIt's shinier than it looks in this picture- but that's always an option if need be.
Here it is next to my Wand for comparison.yeah all depends on the brand, it seems unless they are formulated as a glossy metallic they always seem to dry flat or lose what little gloss they had kind of quick
Yours looks much better as you definitely have a more accurate color scheme... The Wand overall seems a little on the dark side. I repainted mine in the same tones as the crapozoids (black/grey/black)Here it is next to my Wand for comparison. View attachment 1845899

Mostly, probably, but they admitted that the handle thinness was a problem on the production side in China. It may be that the inaccuracies resulted from their correcting the Jein scan to eliminate asymmetries and whatnot.
That is most of the issue and when they did their corrections it's like they made thing to precisely and lost some of the hand crafted qualities in the process...It may be that the inaccuracies resulted from their correcting the Jein scan to eliminate asymmetries and whatnot.
For a Black & White I'd recommend hunting down either a set of S&W midgrade shellsI've considered one of those 3D versions so as to finally do a black and white phaser...but I've had a taste of accurate fiberglass shells, and I don't think there's any coming back from that.

OR
Shanko V4 midgrade shells (the version before the S&W)...
