Julien’s Upcoming Hero Phaser & Communicator Auction

DBM was an easy choice, but I've always felt it was just a bit too brown. I will re-paint in a heartbeat if this new paint KUROK found is better.

I asked JLong about this new color I found. He stuck to his guns about the Rustoleum DBM being the match to the Jein.
Of course, after 20 years, why would he change his mind? I don't blame him for that.

For my builds (if I ever get around to doing them) I'll likely try this Krylon over a gray or metallic gray primer.
Like most of you, I see a gunmetal with a tint of yellow/bronze.

i was fortunate enough to get very close to the phaser and com. hope you enjoy these photos!

Well, I ran out & bought it, just did my test, and it's a go! I'l repaint my handle(s) tomorrow (this photo picked up a lot of brown- the background should be white. In person it's spot on.) Thanks KUROK!!!

It's too late in the day here for that. It's much closer to the mid grade gun metal than it looks in my picture.
OK just remember the primer you use will effect the color.

I know I said grey primer, yet you might want to test it on white, oxide red, and brown primer to see which will come closer to what you want...

I know you can do it. Just remember not to rush, that gets our goat every time

This is a better picture. I like it. I think I'm just gonna go over the DBM without primer- just sand it a bit first, hit it with a light dusting of gunmetal, and then this new colour.

That's a good compromise color as it works quite well for the heros & mids...

Looks like the P2 bodies are slightly different colors though.

Wait, you mean mine are different from each other, that mine are different from the real deal, or that the real heroes are different from the real midgrades?

I went with Krylon Shadow Gray on both of mine as a “good enough” choice.

That's really nice, but for ME (and this is just me) it's missing a hint of bronze on the hero. Those are two amazing beauties, BTW!

At the time, the dark bronze metallic paints were a bit hard to find, so this was also a “good enough” choice. And, frankly, I’m not too enamored of the bronze-y look, at least when it’s overdone. Some replicas and toys go WAY too far with the bronze.

I just meant it looked like the P2 bodies on yours were slightly different shades.

I know the real heros and real mid were slightly different as the mid's were made by the studios and they went with "close enough" colors.

I went with Krylon deep matte gray, but I almost went with shadow gray... it's a great choice.

On my go to hero phaser I only painted the handle as the body is 3D printed in a near perfect match for the hero, on the handle I actually used DecoArt Obsidian Metallic which just pops nice with a clear coat. My midgrade is about as closed to being a duplicate of a screen used midgrade....
