Julien’s Upcoming Hero Phaser & Communicator Auction

I wonder if, on some level, that's why I really like the midgrades and prefer them over the hero; they essentially have the extra detail and color scheme of the hero but keep the cleaner lines with the painted rear fins and side rail...

I suspect that’s why the midgrades have such a following. They’re closer to Jefferies’ intent, but have Wah’s upgrades and colors.

As previously noted, the TMOST is far and away the best-looking of the heroes, which is obviously why it became the King Hero.
But don't get me wrong- I DO love my midgrades.

I alluded to this when we were talking about the midgrades, but Wah sacrificed the cleaner lines of the scribed rear fins in order to build the chunkier clip/fins and eliminate a screw.

Aside from the added details somewhat detracting from the sleekness and austerity of the initial design (while being more visually interesting), every change he made was an improvement.
Well, the fins were added to solve a problem with the B&W hero's...

IF there was no hero phaser then they would have gone with the midgrades for everything.

I'm surprised that more people don't prefer the midgrades over the hero's as what most people associate with being a TOS phaser is the midgrades...

Which take just as much work to build

I dunno about that. Having built both, I can safely say that putting a midgrade together is easier and less stressful than fiddling with all of those delicate internal mechanisms on a hero.

Sure the physical assembly is more work, yet getting a visually satisfying midgrade is a much more careful balancing act as it does require some artistic interpretation.

There are also several adjustments that need to be included on the midgrades

….yeah, it basically takes equally as much time and effort to build either of these two items as well.

;)

Heroes take me waaaaaaaaaaay more time and cause waaaaaaaaaay more aggravation than a Midgrade build.

Depends on how accurate the midgrade build...

Something like what Chrisisall has done while quite nice is pretty straight forward...

When you get into replicating every detail precisely it's a different level of build

…I’m really not following on that comparison.

The work of making JUST a Hero Phaser One takes me 5x the time and resources that making an entire Midgrade Phaser II does…and I humbly think my Midgrades are pretty darn “accurate”.

I suppose others’ mileage may vary.

Anyway…

The fins were added as additional metal detail, the fact that Riley/Lenore still had the rear screw indicates that the use as a clip was an afterthought.
No, what it indicates is WMC added the fins to enhance the phasers visual appeal.

What he discovered was the screw wasn't needed when using the fins, yet due to his time constraints he left the screw in place. He eliminated it when he converted the others as it wasn't needed.

That's if we look at things from a perspective of logical deduction...

fair enough

Probably. It's SO good to hear from you! Where you been, man?! We missed you!
I've just had a lot going on in my life lately. Thanks!

There is no way to know this. This is speculation, not deduction. Leave the screw out, fill in the hole and paint, takes literally minutes.

Say, weren't the phaser and communicator supposed to be on display at SDCC right now? I haven't seen anybody's photos.
phase pistol the exhibition is being held at the SDCC Museum in Balboa Park by the San Diego Zoo, so it’s a separate venue but anyone may attend with online tickets (I believe, $25.) SDCC attendees get free admission. It’s about 15 mins from the con ~ Hopefully someone will snag some more pics
