Julien’s Upcoming Hero Phaser & Communicator Auction

I just don't know, some days. Nothing TOS Phaser has said actually warrants an apology, but okay.

Meanwhile, on the flipside, this actually happened. And I'm still flabbergasted at the audacity.

I will be interested to see the Juliens Items photographs to compare with my files of (a) real/verified, (b) Ron Shankos VG fiberglass repros, (c) John Longs VG urethane and fiberglass repros.

Will Shanko grace us with his presence, too? It was one of my favorite RPF moments of all time when he popped up in the 2021 auction thread to chime in, the mods realized he was banned many years ago, and then banned him again. Hilarious.

An open letter of apology to the members of therpf who have participated in this thread.

First - I apologize for repeating a post that someone posted on this thread about a Japanese collector. I know better than to repeat gossip from people I do not know.

I was raised to be respectful, tell the truth, admit when I was wrong and learn from my mistakes. So when it came time to take responsibilty for my actions during my professional engineering career - I was able to amit my mistakes, correct them, learn from them and move on.

I also apologize for being stubborn and holding on to "cherished beliefs". I know better than to allow my mind to become closed to further learning.

I do sincerely appreciate all of the members who love Star Trek: TOS Phasers as much as I do.

And I greatly appreciate the efforts of those who were willing to share what they have learned / knew about these iconic props. It has been a very pleasant and rewarding experience here on therpf, unlike the other, earlier phaser forums where the "keepers of the secrets" would not share what they knew. And they would repeatly respond to my obervations and posts with "this has already been decided"...

With the sharing of the "Finney" P2 and "TMOST" P1 photos by Dahn - my 36 year search for exactly what the Finney Hero Phaser looked like is now complete.

I wish all of you the best that life has to offer. Take care and keep up the good work.
No need to apologize everyone makes mistakes and you clearly did it out of your love for the hobby..

Definitely stick around!

I can forgive TOS Phaser simply because we as fans will get overly excited about what we love and hold dear.

As far as Jon Paul we already know exactly why he wants to see the photos and what needs to be done about him....

Ron just likes the attention as he has burned his bridges so he's more like comedic relief...

:p

See

I can respect Ron even though he had his issues doing runs, the man is one of the best phaser replica builders alive... His ONE saving grace is he won't out right do a forgery and lie about it. His EGO won't let him not tell everyone he's a damn good builder.

Jon Paul can go rot in hell for all I care even though he's a good builder he would rather use his talents to deceive people than build damn good replicas everyone would love to have. He just needs to be 86'd honestly

Devolving into hate stuff now. I should have known the interesting stuff wouldn't last. Ahh well, I'll just look at my new comm...
No hate stuff, everyone here are passionate fans.

Yet we do have to understand that two of the best phaser builders: Ron & Jon Paul do have down sides

I'm far from perfect as I can have a very strong opinion on things and I can make myself look like a butt head at times<~~~ YET I know it's my flaw

I have done two colors for phaser handles I feel are far more accurate than the "Dark Bronze Metallic" on the left is a color that's almost the same as on the Wand Phaser handle but is just a hair more on the grey metallic.

On the right is my dark grey-gold metallic which might be a hair dark but is much closer to what was seen on screen

I do admit I tend to favor the midgrade color schemes even for hero phasers as I go apes over midgrades 24/7 lol

I would just like to celebrate what we like, love, question, and come to possible answers to than resort to targeting people that we have had problems of some sort with. Artists are fallible creatures. I KNOW I am. Let go of the negativity. There is more than enough of that in our Country.

A commendable attitude.

Perhaps if people with ill intent actually respected that, and didn't pop in here to muddy the waters, there'd be no problem.

While researching the phasers I came across this memo from Gene Roddenberry dated 8/04/66 that is talking about the cost of the phasers. Interestingly, in the middle paragraph he mentions that they had to have Wah Chang "fix up one of these pistols so that it would be more interesting in detail and more adequate for close up insert work."

This memo seems to confirm that the conversions were not done at the same time and is strong evidence that the first one converted was the Conscience / Lenore / Riley phaser since it was the first filmed. It seemingly confirms why the Conscience / Lenore / Riley was a little different from the others because it was the first one as we suspected. Furthermore, the first converted phaser filmed was indeed the Conscience / Lenore / Riley on 8/09/66 and was the only hero filmed until 8/17/66 when two additional converted hero P2's were filmed. It appears Wah was working on converting the other three in the interim period.

Most likely after they got the first phaser back from Wah, they decided to convert the rest of them since the look was much better on film than the B&W's

This fits with what Justman and Solo said in their book. Roddenberry took one look at them and pronounced them "unacceptable."

Wow! I've thought for a long time that the Riley/Lenore was so different it must have been the first phaser WC converted, and I agree this seems to be the proof!

I would bet that they sent the Conscience / Lenore / Riley to Wah first as a sort of pathfinder, because it was the least desirable of the four heroes with its short emitter, just in case they did not like the modifications he did; they would still have 3 of the best heroes on hand. After they got the modified phaser back, kind of a proof of what they would look like, then they sent the other 3. It's all speculation of course but it seems a logical progression. You would not want to risk all of your $7000* dollar props!

* Herb Solo mentioned this figure in a letter to Ernie Scanlon from 9-28-66 where he writes " . . . have you ever heard how much our phaser pistols cost us for STAR TREK? Would you believe a minimum of $7000.00? And would you believe that they were not insertable after completion?"

This seems logical Will. I wonder if someone didn't like the screw underneath the back of the phaser and asked Wah to omit that on the other three.

Just to change the focus a bit I really liked the pics made available of the Beta hero comm and decided to finish off a little comm
that was sitting around for a while. I actually like how it turned out. I didn't have a Minerva stop watch but did have an old Apollo
stop watch so I used it.
